Azurescens, it doesn't matter what other people think of the coins you find/buy, as long as you and mainly your nephew (since they are for him) like whatever coins you get, that's all that matters. I think it's great that you are getting your young nephew into collecting coins and hopefully he will stick with it for many years to come throughout his life and hopefully he can get some others interested in it. I wish there were a lot more young collectors and people like you that help people get started into collecting but unfortunately I think there are a lot of shady people that is really ruining our hobby unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of very good people in the hobby but all it takes is for a person to be taken by someone and that person quits buying because they might feel like they can't trust anyone or hear how people will try to take them in this hobby. You just have to teach your nephew or anyone new to the hobby to really get to know and learn about what they are buying and hopefully find people that can be honest and they can trust because there are a lot of us that are honest in the hobby and are trying to get the bad one's out of it.
Well Azurescens If I looked that good after 175 years I'd be happy indeed. Don't forget, that coin is 175 years old. If your nephew doesn't appreciate it, send it to me, I'd find a place in my collections. Getting that for just over melt was a good buy indeed. Congratulations.

Nice old coin and a great price.... young collectors are not as picky about appearance as more experienced collectors are..... no worries about grade or slab or beans.... just the coin!! Glad you are helping your nephew along the way...Cheers, RickO

THAT is a GREAT first Seated Liberty half.
Thank you for sharing.
Might even consider carrying this as a pocket piece for a week or two.
