Ya never know what you’ll find in the Wawa parking lot....

ambro51ambro51 Posts: 13,949 ✭✭✭✭✭

So this morning I notice my Buddy Steve’s pickup in the wawa lot. He’s making his coffee, and he says “look what I just found in the parking lot”, as he takes a plastic lanyard type sleeve out, and pulls out the contents. Well, I imagine Caitlin at the local Wells Fargo was soiling her panties at that moment. Here were ALL the combinations to the Bank Vaults, the main vault, coin vault etc etc. Poor Dear, thankfully Steve is an upright honest guy and was taking it all back to her. I imagine though the Bank Manager sat her down for a stern lecture!!!

There's an abandoned, fold-down camper in my local Cloud 9 parking lot. (Flat/missing tires and all.)

Yikes. I actually used to work in a Wells Fargo branch while in college (thirty years ago) and had vault combos. It was a BIG no-no to write them down.

Are you hijacking this Wawa parking lot thread to talk about hotel parking lots? ;)

Darn I do miss WaWa out here in Detroit Metro. Tim Hortens has great Coffee but I miss adding my own Cream and Splenda . And those WaWa Soft Pretzels !

I wonder if for at least a split second he considered a career change. "Bank robber" would have been an easy option with his parking lot find.

If he handled it right (and if Miss Careless had not blabbed to her manager yet), your friend would have had an indebted contact on the inside. That might provide some great access to whatever odd and curious coins and banknotes wandered into the bank or turned up in rolls of coins or bricks of currency.

Imagine making a potentially job-ending screw-up that got erased because the right person handed you your life back with a wink and a nod. Sort of like those stories about a cop who leaves his gun in the bathroom stall; I always figured if it was me who found it I would try to get it back to him without it making the 6:00 news.

Forget about giving it back to Caitlin. She likely has them memorized by now. Your friend likely doesn't.

It seems the safest (no pun intended) thing to do would for Steve to bring the documents back to the branch manager and let the manager know that part of the bank security might be compromised.

Well this may have evolved a bit because just now passing the bank I see two work vans from Stanley Security there!!

I'm guessing the employee was immediately fired and the combinations changed, the assess codes as well as all the locks changed.

What would be the steps necessary for the safe's contents being accessed even with those codes? With high traffic I would guess that any given individual would not be able to get away with much, plus there are a lot of warning triggers that go with money that is not coming in as expected. And what would be the daily cash volume of a Wawa anyway?

I have a 200# safe that I lost the combo on, I still had the keys. I saw that someone advertised one in Vegas without the combos as a "safe cracker's" special and it sold quickly. Good luck finding someone who knows how to do that in most parts. It makes a good movie segment.

Probably true. That is why I might have been inclined to handle it more discretely. The employee might still have dropped a dime on herself if she had a guilty conscience, but she might have also kept it under wraps so as to avoid the upheaval that would undoubtedly follow a security breach like that.

I'm always scanning the lot for change at Wawa & Quick Chek. I'm surprised I haven't been run over yet.

While Steve deserves props for being so honest, I gotta say, he ain't much of a mafia "Idea Man." A guy could have done a lotta other stuff with those numbers, capiche?

I learned a lot by reading these boards the past couple of months. ;)

Steve’s a retired army captain with more medals than you can shake a stick at. I’d trust my life with that guy. (Period)

Back in the 70's the Wawa was an X-rated drive in movie theater between North Webster and Syracuse Indiana......... There was a disgusting assortment of objects to be found in that parking lot!!

I hear you on parking lots......It was a good thing I looked down !!!

Now that is an amazing parking lot find...glad an honest person picked it up....Hope it went ok for the employee....Accidents happen, and with no ill effects, a cautionary advisement session should suffice. As far as the fold down camper, abandoned at Cloud 9...that could be a body dump... B) Cheers, RickO
