What Gives?
Why do people continue to buy this crap?
https://ebay.com/itm/173145758132?ul_noapp=true
And then there's this one. Posted as an alteration yet some dork still bid $71.00??
What gives? Are buyers really this dumb?
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Looks like scrap metal to me.
However, at $71 a piece with market demand, I'll gladly resign tomorrow and go buy an electrochemical setup, a few cathodes, maybe some nitric acid for good measure - and grab a beer while I watch science make me millions.
I agree-just some uneducated person who thought it was cool.

"The coin looks like a very cool alteration rather than an error." This sounds like self-admitting that it is an alteration, probably an acid bath of some sort.

The seller admits that it is an alteration. How is this different than any other novelty coin including the flattened overstruck penny tokens or Dcarr fantasy pieces? What some find neat, others finding boring.
It is a hobby, and people are entitled to buy what attracts them. That being said, I do believe a significant percentage that buy this stuff are neophytes and are being conned. Cheers, RickO
It just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
....and that acid is on the surfaces of the coin.
Remember ~Fizzies Drink Tablets~ same thing, only metallic tasting.

I'd rather have my "beauty" in a PCGS holder............

And you can bring that to the bank....
Yeah, those sellers could get a lot more using Alibaba.

Some people just want to believe that they just bought an ultra-rare amazing error. Look at the bids. There were several bidding on this piece of crap. And if you told them it was fake, they'd get angry and tell you that experts told them this was real. Can't tell you how many times I've heard that.
Not really any different then the people who pay premiums for toned coins. You or I certainly would not but hey, whatever floats your boat.
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
Maybe BEERholder is more like it?!
I’ve done some dumb stuff when I shouldn’t have but ya never know what their thought process was.
These have been popping up for close to a year now. Originally listed as "missing Clad Layer" coins under Eisenhower Errors, they were selling quite well. S/He also sells CnClad Kennedy's with the same damage.
I laughed when they first started showing up in my feed but then, they always sold. Incredible. Absolutely Incredible!
