I've noticed threads that have a dozen people giving the same identical answer to a question posed by the original poster. It made me wonder how many people bother to read prior responses.
Do you read all the posts before responding to the OP?

I am working on trying to do better. Some time I will read posts first but if it is opinion why bother. If you read all other responses first then its not a true sampling. Good question though.

1% of the time I don't read everything completely. Normally, when I first see a discussion,, if it interests me I mark it and then, if I think I can add something, I quote all the previous replies I wish to comment on. Some members like to post an answer to each post. That is probably the best way as it runs their post #'s up and lessens the chance of confusion.
I grin when an OP's question has been fully answered and the latecomers pile on with identical replies. Some folks don't see the OP until late in the day when things are "over." They would have nothing to do if they didn't respond.
It is lucky this forum goes worldwide. I've been posting with others well after 1 AM EST.
The app doesn’t update new posts in real time, so I do see duplicate posts often by people who are probably typing at the same time and not aware of each other.
I think we are referring to posts that are made much further down the thread.
Example:
Q: Is this coin genuine?
A: Yes, because this...
Then, two more posters add "Yes" because ...
OP thanks everyone.
Then, new poster hijacks the thread - here is mine!
Now, latecomers comment on OP's coin saying it is genuine OR more often, OP's coin is forgotten for a while and the new coin is discussed.
Next someone posts: "IMO the OP's coin is genuine."
It gets very "old" as each time something is added to the thread it looks like something "interesting" might be added. NOPE!
In the end, we are lucky to have this place with all its +/- and different personalities.

I see that several members responded that they read ALL comments. Really? There is an active thread right now with 950 posts. I might poke around to get the drift of things, but a couple of dozen actual reads is my max.
I didn't see the buttons for "I didn't realize that the OP was from 2006" or "I don't realize it when I am page 2 of a 19-page thread" so I abstained. ...
I still miss the beer emoji. Oh, and the group hug!

I read most of the posts on short threads. Over 50, I read the most recent.
Smoe of us can't COUNT to 50..
I used to read all the responses because I figured my answer would already be posted. It almost never was so now I post and then go through to see if other responses are also necessary.
Or answer a different poll from the one you're looking at.
I will often not even open a thread if there are a huge number of responses. This is often an indication that the discussion has nothing to do with the OP anymore.
I'll usually scan responses if I'm about to answer, but sometimes giving a duplicate answer lends reassurance to the OP that a previous one is credible (or alternatively, that multiple people can be wrong in the same way, I guess).

I only posted the poll because I was just on a thread that asked a specific question. About 3 of the first 6 responses gave the same exact correct answer to the question. But, the thread is still going and people are still posting the same correct answer, so it seems like people don't read the previous responses.
[It also means that people may not mark their questions "answered". LOL.]

Read all content posts, but skip insubstantial and personal attack messages. In extreme cases, such as the "omega" thread that was deleted, skimming for new content seems best.
I may read the first half dozen replies or so before responding.

I check the date. Some posters like to bring up old threads...could be embarrassing, especially if I had already posted and then posted the contrary.
I read all posts. This is the best place on the Internet for coin info. Some of you are brilliant scholars. Imagine how much you would have to pay someone for all the great knowledge you guys impart? The different facets from bullion to errors to early America to world to currency and the "bookworm" numismatists that blow my mind. It's a blessing.
I tend to avoid reading all posts in image only threads unless I'm on wifi. Then I just sit there and dream haha.
Playing twenty ways to give a basic answer is quite annoying but I read most anyways to see if I can add something. And usually, I don't. But.....those who seemed to be repetitious in their responses, they must have each other blocked or they think too highly of themselves even to bother reading other's posts. But I must add, however repetitious some responses get, some do manage to paraphrase ideas or form a better observation than others.
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

I like to read all the posts before I reply.
If a thread interests me I read every comment. I can usually tell from the thread title if I want to read it or not. I read many more threads than I comment in, and there are many more threads I simply never open.
There are actually entire sections of the board that are no interest to me, and I never go in. I don't think I've ever opened the bullion section in my ten years on the forum, for example.
There are some threads I want to read but can't. If there are a lot of pictures it will make my tablet browser crash. I have no idea why and it's only this website, and one blog for another hobby. I do most of my reading and posting from my tablet, the only time I use my actual computer is to post a photo.
I usually do. That way; I'm less likely to give redundant or inaccurate information.

Yes, I do. I believe it's only fair to the thread creator/fellow posters to know all the info. posted before making a comment. You never know what you may pickup/learn from the varied posts. It would be an embarrassment (for myself) of sorts to comment and my POV had already been addressed. In this case best to hit the Agree/Disagree button. If one is going to praise or condemn it is best to know as much about the issue at hand as possible. Let me say this (ah a Nixonian flashback moment) that Omega thread really challenged my eyes/patience, but muddled through it. Just one more thing (Nixon creeping in again?). Does your question in the poll also refer to posters who give the same repetitive positive comment, say for a like of a coin? For instance 5 posters saying "Nice Coin" and similar comments repetitively?
