Ever find a coin on a site and it's marked, "HOLD?"
I do and think ...aw dang... JUST the coin I wanted.

THEN.... I'll order a coin and see it come up marked "HOLD" because I bought it and then I say to myself dang, I wonder why nobody else bought it"
Ever happen to you? :D;)

The paradox of "HOLD"

This is a private poll: no-one will see what you voted for.

Now I'm wondering if I should have posted the poll,
Why didn't someone else do it?

    Aiyee! :D

Oh how terrible. It's leading up to an Omega thread maybe. :D

Er, ah, I guess I am just a dumbASK.

Here is what your poll is:

    The paradox of "HOLD"
    Yes
    No

Makes no sense, no question, just a statement. Again me stoopid, forgive me.......

I wanted to vote "no", but then I realized there might be another version of me in a parallel universe voting "yes".

So I didn't vote, since I don't want to run the risk of having both votes cancel each other out.

If this place had software that could handle polls easily and include multiple answers and a logical layout for the start template, everything would be clear.

But since it must be puzzling, please don't vote.

It would be like an election if you do. :p

There is nothing logical about this place. That's what makes it so much fun.

I've seen coins on hold for months at a time and it just left me wondering.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Paraphrasing @topstuf - Have you ever found yourself disappointed something is on hold (for someone else), then later equally elated something is on hold (for you)? Yes or No? This poll isn't that hard to understand.

New poll: Is this situation actually a paradox, or just situational irony? ;)

  • mvs7mvs7 Posts: 1,662 ✭✭✭✭✭

    BTW: I vote irony.

Paradox: you go to your favorite coin site and see a coin that you really want on hold for someone else. You are pissed! The dealer accidentally lets slip who the coin is on hold for. You go back in time and kill the grandfather of the collector who has the hold on the coin you want. Back in the future, the collector never existed and the hold is gone, but now you would not get pissed and not go back in time. Paradox!

    I vote density. :p

one man's paradox is another man's nonsense. now, I realize I may be attacked for saying that but I said it anyway.

Probably right. I mean really , if you have a time machine, just go back and acquire the coin when minted, without the vendetta.

One of my favorite coins was marked “hold” when I first saw it on a dealer’s website. I called the dealer anyhow, the coin ended up getting returned, and I ended up with it.

Every once in a while it all comes together.

I usually wait until someone snaps up the coin I like and then say dam, I was right, it was a nice coin, I should have bought it. :/

For every hold or completed auction on a coin, 1 of billions made, it means that 1 person paid more than anyone else in a small group of people among billions of people at 1 point in time over billions of years, in 1 country on a small planet in a mediocre solar system in a nondescript section of a minor galaxy of billions of stars among billions of galaxies.

Therefore, I would not get too wrapped up about the celestial ramifications of your or others hold on a coin.

Well....I never have had the problem, and if I did, I would just move on.... I never stress over such things. This is one of my hobbies, no stress allowed...If it becomes stressful, I will get another hobby. Cheers, RickO

The celestial ramifications are huge. Winning this coin is an essential step in my plan to take over the universe! >:)
