Just when you thought you'd never collect modern coins........think again. Better save some back for the grandson.

Come-on-man... Get a "new born" a roll of Silver Eagles. Just think if your great grandfather would have picked up some brand new rolls of Morgan Silver dollars to pass on to his future grandchildlen, from the San Francisco mint back in 1893.

Would the 1893-S roll still be unopened?

Not if it was given to me. Of course I would have probably spent them when I was a kid for candy and comic books.

How about a roll on eBay with a 1893 on one end and a "S" mint on the other.

That boy looks like a keeper to me, definitely a MS70 gold bean.

Congratulations! It appears that he is going to punch someone though! Get him interested early! Once they get to a certain age and focusing on social skills there is nothing you can do to get them interested in the hobby of numismatics. And I mean nothing!

    Congrats!!

When we were born, our grandparents gave each of us siblings a Mint or Proof set for that and subsequent years.

It's a tradition my parents & I carried on with our sons after they were born - - up until they reached their late teens & I realized I was wasting my time /money on over-priced clad stuff.

I wish I had instead bought them something silver each year instead. If I had it to do all over again, I think I'd buy them a SAE (or similar) each year on their birthday. Another thought I had is maybe to buy them a coin on each birthday that was either from exactly a HUNDRED (or 200) years ago, so they'd have a neat collection of coins over time. That might be an interesting avenue to look into.........
