What's going on with this trade dollar?

I spotted this rather abused 1875 CC trade dollar on eBay. The reverse has some doubling under the eagle's head extending down the outside of the right facing wing that I have not seen before. The coin looks genuine to me. Is this just an extreme form of machine doubling?

Looks like a scratch to me. Damaged.
Could be, maybe I'm just reading the images wrong; interpreting a scratch as the edge of a shelf.
My first thoughts were a clash of some sort as the line really does not replicate the eagle's profile and wing exactly. Looking closer, I too believe that it is a scratch. The mind can sometimes play games depending on what it expects to see...

I enlarged the photo, and can see
the 'valley' of the scratch.

Despite the cleaning and the scratch, I kinda like it.. almost makes the eagle look like it's moving kinda..
Definitely looks as if someone was tracing the eagle in that area....Certainly a post mint scratch... Cheers, RickO
