USPS again

goldengolden Posts: 9,996 ✭✭✭✭✭

I ordered a coin from a major dealer 2 weeks ago. I went to my P.O. Box today and nothing. I called the dealer to get the tracking number. The last scan says that it arrived at my P.O. on the 25th! They have not left a notice in my box. It is 27 miles round trip to go to my P.O. so I do not go often. So now I will go back tomorrow and ask for a supervisor. This used to be a good P.O. but has really gone down hill in the last couple of years.

This plus the USPS Mobile app stuffed with inbound tracking numbers can save plenty of trips. A few times recently, I've had to show a clerk that a package was delivered to or available at my PO Box for which I had neither a claim slip nor a locker key.

There do seem to be more problems in the last 3 or 4 months. I ship about 50 packages per week. I haven't seen an increase in lost packages, but I have seen a significant increase in delayed or "temporarily missing" packages. As soon as I file a Locate Mail, they seem to suddenly find the package again. But I've filled out more of those in the last 4 months than the previous 5 years.

Anything sent USPS, especially small boxes and envelopes, are sometimes sent to UPS in their SurePost contract. Some routes we have are dropoffs at PO's with 20x 70lb bags of USPS parcels. That being said, the way these are sorted, I've seen tons of USPS that doesn't get bagged correctly at work and goes missing for awhile. So, the bag it was supposed to be in gets scanned, showing it's en route, when it's really sitting under a pile of bags in a giant bin which won't be found for days. When sure post bags arrive at the PO, they get a destination scan and tracking number update, and will only update accordingly when employees are done going through the bags and revert back to en route if it was missing in the bag. This is usually why you see it sit at the post office for a few days. They're not sitting on your package at the post office; the bag yours was supposed to be in either never had it in there or wasn't handled properly (scanned) by USPS handlers after receiving SurePost. This is pretty common especially with next day air. We send SP out, air comes late, your bag is at the PO but your USPS is still at UPS.

They have probably gone down in quality the last few years due to the increasing volume of USPS going through UPS hubs, increasing the margin of error and lost packages.

Seems there have been a marked increase in USPS problem lately... and beyond the holiday rush. I hope I am wrong....Cheers, RickO

If UPS can't keep up with its volume, USPS suffers.. pretty much all of October to even now. SurePost has guaranteed deliveries and such, but if the PO is overloaded and no employees to accept, it just gets sent again the next day.. then the next.. and on and on.. or if they have room or not. I've heard of SP bags in some extenuating circumstances being turned away around the holidays.

So I go to my P.O. today and there is still not a notice in my box. I ask for a supervisor. As soon as I saw her I knew what the problem was. The last time that I saw her ,several years ago, she was a window clerk. She always thought that she knew everything and she actually knew less than any window clerk that I had ever met. Not to mention the fact that she is The Queen B...h. She is now the supervisor. The office used to have great clerks. She has run them off. They have all bid off to other offices. They have been replaced by clerks that do not know what they are doing. Sad. Yes, I did get my package.

This happened to me recently. Package was misplaced in someone else’s po box. Luckily this other person had not picked up their mail yet.

I have never had serious problems with express. I had a couple sellers ship gold coins via first class recently, one was delayed a week and the other arrived on time. Unless you are sending registered which inherently is slow, people need to pay for better service if they want it. Pennywise pound foolish.

My parcel arrived at the P.O. "Your package is ready for pick-up at your designated post office"...I wonder when they pick up the packages, early, late, whenever.
