Fake junk.
How can re-offering of these fakes be prevented?
that is the question on the minds of all the viewers.
as odd as it may sound, it seems that it is more about preventing them from being sold than relisted/reoffered and then disincentivizing those with ill intent from doing so again with banned accounts, restrictions or more.
we used to be able to harass the sellers but ebay put layers between the activists for honest vs dishonest.
many here have been at it for MANY years, yours truly included. imo, it is simply crime management more than prevention unfortunately.

What are you seeing that is wrong with this one?
for me it is several things. the color, overall look, uncrisp details all factor but the thing that seals the deal for me is the central weakness and usually the first thing i notice which is VERY common amongst morgan counterfeits.
not so much just weakness but a common pattern of weakness. if you look at the date/letters around the legend, you can see how bloblish they look, minor but in this case minor counts for a lot. the ear is nearly non-existent which ties to the central common weakness. LIBERTY is often shallow as well and can also come with unsharp edges (blobish).
obv/rev for convenience.
Not to long ago there was a thread with a counterfeit 1877 Indian head cent... It scared the heck out of me.
is it the one in this thread, near the top?
.
i looked for the image in this thread and saw i neglected to link the seller account and i looked to see what else they had and noticed a lincoln. looked at the reverse and it is a good example of the "blobish" lettering/devices i am referring to.
Thank you for the explanation it is very interesting. So none of that weakness or blobiness comes from circulation wear?

No... Not the one. The one I'm referring to had something go on with the N in ONE on the reverse....WOW that one is scary also.

Here's a fake $2 1/2 Indian on ebay going off today

i only was released from my mission around the first of the year, so i probably didn't see it.
i'll tinker in the search feature to see what i can turn up.

Here's one that legitimately fooled me (seller's pictures)
Wow... this thread goes a long way to supporting the other poll thread about quantity of fakes on ebay....
@LanceNewmanOCC.... good information on the 'general weakness' and 'blobbish letters'...I have used those as points of suspicion in the past...Cheers, RickO
