Overzealous Die Polishing

Looking through a roll of cents and came across this one. I get trying to buff out the die clash, but sheesh! What did they use, a knife? This is a 1993 cent.

This is actually kind of modest compared to others out there. They can get seriously wicked like the polisher was on a good dose of amphetamines at the time. I love me some killer scrubbed dies!
Contaminated abrasive. Very common, and often ugly workmanship.
Here's one I picked up in change.

Here's a dime I picked up recently.. They really went to work on both the obverse and reverse. The reverse they managed to abrade away some major details. I know some people don't like these kind of coins, but I just love them.
I recall old-timers calling them "straw marks" or "straw lines."
Here's one of my VAM Discoveries that John Roberts decided to do a write-up on for his CoinWorld VAM Article in 2016. They scrubbed the crap out of this girl...

I find these kinds of things to be interesting as well. Sure makes for an easy die marker to identify the dies used to make the coin!
Wow...those are some really prominent die polishing lines.... looks like they had temp workers doing it.
Cheers, RickO
I like die polish lines, it definitely makes an interesting coin!

Nothing wrong with it. It gives a coin character (and a bit of visual history of the die)

I think that was cleaned
the line are on both the fields and the devices!
I maybe wrong but JMHO
My guess is that harsh die maintenance can affect recessed devices and that's what happened here in the lower portrait.
If you look hard at the die polish about the head there is no question it stops before the drop off.
I'm just guessing too. This is simply a penny I didn't even save (I think). But it was a fun example.

Not as dramatic as some of the others, but sure makes for a nice look:
