I wouldn't pay that for any '23 Peace dollar.
Some would though.
To each his own.
I wouldn't....
But someone is interested in it as a die trial, maybe? Interesting....but not $600 interesting.
I see strong doubling on the C of “Peace” and the date too.
It is a strange looking piece for sure but I can’t see anything that’s screaming at me that it’s different. But I don’t study Peace dollars.
Broadstruck?
i assume its a grease filled piece? how else could it ms64
IIRC, this was listed as a die setup trial. Cool coin. Peace dollar errors are pretty uncommon. I don’t collect them but those working on an error typeset or a similar project don’t have many to chose from. For a coin like this the date & MM are more or less irrelevant.

I can believe that. Should have never left the Mint.

Yes it's a die trial and whom do I make the check for $600 out to?
No thanks

Link to the sale?
Die trials are not of interest to me as a collector. That being said, for those who do collect them, they seem to be scarce and therefore expensive. Cheers, RickO
I would have no interest in that coin. The fact that it may be scarce or rare makes no difference.
Nope!
Sorry double post.
I like it! But I don't want it (except to flip
) .
I like your moxie Broadstruck!
Of course ... to whom do I make out a check for $650?
See http://www.doubledimes.com for a free online reference for US twenty-cent pieces
I know the full history on this one from slabbed to HA
maybe if I get the correct 6 #s.
Me thinks Sir Broadstruck knows more about his specialty than he shall be saying.
not sure that the owner who paid $660 will take a loss of $60 for it.
This piece is nice but it also had some decent competition in it's auction. The 1905 quarter eagle, 3 lots behind it, looks great.
I think it is kinda neat

For my own selfish education.............How do 'they' determine that this was a die trial/set up piece?
Thanks

Here's the HA description. The reasoning is likely due to the low pressure on this strike:
Interesting, thanks

Near flawless surfaces with a somewhat debatable strike. Otherwise super superbly soupy surfaces, likely to please even the most discriminating of vest pocket collectors.
