Ed Rochette has passed away

Former ANA Executive Director Ed Rochette has passed away at age 90. Don't know the official cause of death, but he had suffered from Alzheimers for quite some time.

We had our differences while I was at the ANA, but all in all he did a good job there.

Numismatist. 54 year member ANA. Former ANA Senior Authenticator. Winner of four ANA Heath Literary Awards; three Wayte and Olga Raymond Literary Awards; Numismatist of the Year Award 2009, and ANA Lifetime Achievement Award 2020. Also won the PNG's Robert Friedberg Award for "The Enigmatic Lincoln Cents of 1922," Available now from Whitman or Amazon.

    There is a typo in the obit. The ANA Summer Seminar was started much earlier. Someone will know the exact year as I think some of the first instructors are still alive. I believe I attended my first one in 1972 or 1973. I'll bet a small group had the seminar in '69, '70, or '71. Perhaps even earlier.

    You are correct. I attended as a student in 1976, and they had been going on for some time by then.

    You are correct. I attended as a student in 1976, and they had been going on for some time by then.

    As Ken when you see him as he may know or it may be in the ANA Centennial History Book.

    There were very few classes offered in the early days, Counterfeit Detection and maybe one or two others. Perhaps they are referring to one of the major expansions of the Seminar.

    Ed was a great guy, and he will be sorely missed! I met him years ago when I was a panel member on a CNN press conference that was hosted at the ANA museum in Colorado Springs.

    Ed was a fount of numismatic history, and quite the tour guide too! He took us all around the museum, and to all the nearby highlights in Colorado Springs.

    I can remember it as if it was yesterday...very, very memorable!!

    Sorry to hear of his passing. I talked with him a few times when I volunteered at the ANA Museum. He was a positive force for the ANA and always happy to share interesting stories. When I met him he was excited about an upcoming trip to St. Pierre & Miquelon, where he had never been before. He also showed me his great collection of coins from Jersey and Guernsey.
