Gold coins shipped to Europe--how many times counted by banks?

logger7logger7 Posts: 9,972 ✭✭✭✭✭

In an auction of a certified gold coin I saw a comment about how often they were counted by the banks:

"Most of the Mint State 1884-S twenties available today are repatriated coins that served in country-to-country, bank-to-bank transactions. Especially in Europe, coins were counted and recounted, acquiring many marks from handling and transport. This Select Uncirculated example is exceptionally free of abrasions and bagmarks."

Was it common to count and recount the US coins in the Euro bank bags?

I do not know when 'weight counting' became acceptable... but prior to that, I am sure every time they were transferred or inventoried they were counted. Cheers, RickO

I agree with Ricko, as even items that remained in the same vaults are inventoried.
