Only in the newest episode of the Blacklist which aired tonight. Season 5 Episode 11...Red gets one of four existing pennies and loses it and gets it back and then spends it on another treasure. There is a Denver Mint robbery and $100,000 dollar bills (with Coolidge on the front...but it should have been Woodrow Wilson.) a crazed collector searching for treasure for 40 years, and his deceased father- a mint worker who dreamt of becoming a master engraver!! Oh, did I mention the four bronze pennies actually had imperfections which when layered together formed a treasure map? Without giving away the ending, my hat's off to you NBC!

Well, the thread title lured me in....
Then it turns out to be a fantasy show....Oh well... to quote another fantasy show...'The truth is out there...'
Cheers, RickO

I couldn't get past the Denver Mint being in charge of printing, storing, and disposing of currency in addition to coins. Haven't the writers ever heard of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing?
.
Never watched the show before but I'm a Jeopardy fan. The show came on after Jeopardy and the "penny" caught my eye so I watched it. A little far fetched but kind of fun to watch. Was I hearing things or did someone say all the other 1943 pennies were made of copper?
Always nice to see coins on TV, even if in a fantasy.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Sounds interesting and just inaccurate enough to be a mainstream representation of numismatics

....I wish the OP would add to the title "Found......on TV"
I'm so tempted to click this thread every time I read the
title !!!
Nope, you were not hearing things. According to Reddington's (show character) exposition, all 1943 cents were copper except for the four "errors" made of bronze. Not as egregious as the Denver Mint producing currency, but still grating. If the writers knew enough to name drop Eliasberg, you'd think they'd know about steel cents.

Done!
Sorry to mislead, I thought it was funny!!!
The most unbelievable part of the show was how everybody held such a valuable coin, without gloves!!! Yikes~
Too many technical errors.
I had to keep hitting pause while I laughed and then tell my wife what was wrong

Yes I'm positive. I paused the screen right in the beginning where Red was holding the penny to see the year and mint mark.
Funny, there is an article in Coin World right now about a 1943 bronze penny that sold for $1,000,000. I really thought all the 1943 pennies were steel.
The S mint is like tens more more rare than the D mint.
The D Mint is unique.
RE: "Bronze 1943 D Penny Found on TV"
As soon as I saw this I ran to the family room and looked on my TV - Nothing but dust. What a letdown.
I never said it was on YOUR TV.....now mine...that's another story! Dang, just dust too.
Several years ago I found a 1909 penny on the top of our refrigerator.
How much will you take for the film rights?

Was that the 1909 penny that was sent to Mars?
