What grade would you give this 1952-s Roosevelt?

I have come across a very nice book of nicely toned Roosevelt dimes. Many of them seem to grade at least MS-65. What grade would you give this 1952-s? Would it make 67? And if so does it have full bands? I am not to familiar with Roosevelt dimes and wanted some more opinions. Thanks in advance.

Nice coin! Agree that it's probably 67FB, if both sets of bands remain distinct and unbroken to the right edge of the torch... this is in shadow in your picture, so a bit harder to tell. There is also a little slash mark on the lower bands which could mess things up, but again hard to tell from your picture.

Edited to add: after you provided better lit photos, I don't think that's going to get the FB designation... too flat at bottom right edge and bands not separate/distinct at the bottom. The roughness there could also drop the grade down to 66. Still a pretty dime.

Would it have a chance if I sent it in to PCGS to get graded?

By the way, if you are unfamiliar with the Full Bands (FB) designation, here is some info from PCGS:

I have some others from the book that I think are contenders for 67 and have great color. Ill post them as well.

Tough to tell, but anywhere from 65 no FB- - 67 FB. You'll need to tinker with your lighting a bit to tell if it's FB. As for the grade, I think it comes down to luster when getting to a 66 or better.

    Nicely toned Roosey either way.

Here is a better picture of the 1952-s and some pictures of a 1946-d.

    66 No. Rough reverse.

Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

Nice looking dime. Has a solid obverse with a hit on the nose. Reverse has weak lettering and bottom bands are flat on the right side.

    My guess is a MS66. No FB's.

No guess on the grades from me, but I will say that is a really attractive pair of Roosies you have there!

Those would be dimes I would probably send in for grading! IMO the 52 is 67, no bands due to the hit across the lower bands, the 46 looks more 66 and has a better shot at FB. Either of these could have a good day or bad day at the grading services and you could be surprised!

Id love to see the other dimes in the album!

    The second coin looks 66fb

may the fonz be with you...always...

From What I can see, I would guess 66. Can't tell if it's a FB from the photo I see.

I will take better pictures of the whole book when I get home from class. Until then, here is a 1951-s with a bit of toning and appears to have full bands as well. I think it would grade a 67 if not for the scrape on the torch. The lighting makes it look more harsh than it actually is though.

My guess would be 66, no FB on the OP.....and 65 on the 51S...Cheers, RickO

Until it is in a slab and graded by a major TPG I would call it nothing more than MS60. In the case of moderns it is the slab that gives it value. I see no point in paying premiums for common date, raw Roosevelt dimes.

The reason I am considering sending them in is because I only have 25 bucks in the whole book. I got it 4-5 years ago at an estate sale and was the only one who knew what it was (no other coin guys there). I'd be willing to take my chances getting the ones graded that people think are 67s.

Save your money and take your profit now. Even if you were to send them in for grading you would still have to find buyers for any 67s you achieved. How many collectors really care about Roosevelt dimes?

If the D wasn't so close to the corn stalk I'd venture a guess of superlative MS67.

Here are some pictures of the rest of the coins for you. Full of some really beautiful ones. The 1947-s is my favorite but the reverse strike is pretty weak.

Count me in for the 47-D and the 49-D, raw or graded!

Many of us here collect Roosevelt dimes. I have a book of toned ones much like yours. They can be very cool!

The last 2 dimes you've shown are really nice. I would grade them 66FB's. I love the look of the luster coming through the Dansco album pics, plus the color is insane! You really have a nice album there. The nice thing is the matching toning on all the dimes on the same page. Finding a high grade FB Roosevelt dime set with matching toning is priceless to me. Personally I would love to have an all 67FB/67+FB with beautiful Dansco gun metal blue/purple/lavender toning. I would be finished with the set at that point.

If there aren't scratches that don't show in the photo the 52-s is a 67 easy. I think it may not go fb due to the hit but many pcgs fb dimes already in holders do have hits on the bands (I avoid them). The 46-d may be 67fb too. I would buy the 46-d if it goes 67fb.

Do you think the hit on the torch on the 46d would be problematic for a 67 grade? The lighting makes it look more harsh than it is. You have to get it in the right light to make it look bad.
