My son wanted me to share.......

I got home from work today and was talking with my oldest son (8 yrs old) and he asked me if I could take a picture of some coins and share them with you guys. I told him I would, so here they are.
Once he finished the State Quarters he wanted to just get an original 13 colonies set so he would have 2 different types of sets. He was excited once he completed it. He also just wanted to share some quarters he had in his personal collection. He has searched for extras of these pretty hard and finally got them.

My son wanted to say thank you for the kind words about his collection and he has liked reading the comments.

    He has enjoyed it.

Actually both of my boys got me into the hobby. I saw how much he enjoyed collecting the state quarters and I immediately thought that this could be something we could do together with more of the emphasis being put on him and his brother and their collections. I have some coins in a little collection of mine but they have far more than I do. I made some copies of some sheets that had lists of their quarters, pennies, and nickels on them and put it into a binding for them so they could highlight which ones they had.

Awesome to see he has a collection of quarters he likes. I think the Whitman folder books are a great starting tool for young kids. My shop sells them for $3 each if ya need them let me know.

Nice collection. If he's still searching he may be intrigued to know that a few of the quarters had errors. Probably scarce in circulation but you never know.

Dare I say it but the state quarter series might have some benefit after all. If he collects by state he will learn the states, and maybe some fun historical facts along the way by learning about the designs. That 13 colony subset is a fantastic idea, and will teach him about the original colonies (I'll bet most kids his age don't even know what a colony is or that there were 13 of them). What the schools don't teach these days he will be learning on his own.

He will be a better rounded person and more knowledgeable than his peers. This will pay off huge dividends as he gets older.

Personally, I like searching nickels. There is not the same design variety as quarters, but there is more date variety to be found in nickels. When he gets just a bit older it might be fun to find different dates and name a major event that occurred in each year.

I have a few hobbies and every one of them opens doors to other areas of knowledge and interest.

My son and I want to say thank you for all the comments about his set and other quarters. He has enjoyed reading all of the comments and kind words.
He thinks it would be neat if they came up with 13 colony quarter set. He asked me "What if it happened?" I told him it would be cool and that he should write to the mint about it when they get done with the state park quarters.

@JBK my wife and I are both public school teachers. We decided to have my wife stay home and home school. They did a unit on each of the 50 states and spent time learning things about each one. Now they are working on the colonies and the discovery of America.

@COCollector we got them a state quarter book that they filled pretty quick and now they are working on the state park book. It has been fun as they search our quarters, grandparents quarters.
