I can't seem to pass them up when I find them. Is there a twelve step program for this?

I'm a sucker for a well struck beard on an early Lincoln. Even better when the color is a pleasing red brown.

    This makes me want to take a copper Lincoln and smooth down the beard for a shaved look.

    Maybe just a little off the surface of a Zincoln for the elderly white beard look.

    It's a beauty. You know what you like and you go for it. A 12 step program isn't for you. A 12 step program is designed to identify what you LIKE and to get you to NOT go for it. Nice penny!!

    The master hub on Lincoln cents was modified in 1916 to strengthen the portrait, and it continued into 1917. Such-dated Lincoln cents, when well-struck, can have among the best strikes in the entire series. In your original coin above, I notice that not only is the beard full, but also the upper hair, the bow tie, coat details, and creases down to the lower obverse appear full. Only proofs will show a better strike. I think the same modified portrait continued on the hub into 1918 and beyond, even with the addition of the VDB initials on the shoulder.

    Such an addiction is one of the most difficult to shake, even more so than cigarettes. Give up trying to shake it, it's hopeless, simply try to mitigate the worst ill-effects.

    Thanks everyone. I would guess we all need some level of professional help. :) I no longer have a Lincoln collection so it makes no collecting sense that I would buy these. As they say, buy what you like. Here's my '19. The only remaining coin from my original brown/red brown variety set. Stuart's '19 in ms69 is my favorite Lincoln ever.
