I never knew these existed and was lucky enough to find it from a forum member here, great guy.
These are Daniel Carr's 2014 Moonlight Mint Open House Token struck on various coins. This one is a Kennedy Half.
I included the except from Daniels site that explains them.
And mine is starting to tone ![]()

Glad it went to a good home! And dang, I knew yours pictures would turn out awesome!
certainly not my cup of tea, what a shame to deface a beautiful 64 Kennedy half. Why on earth would anyone want to overstrike an existing coin?
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
Retiring at 55, what day is today?
And I like it too, Stef!
Collectors of counterstamps and overstrikes would ask, why would anyone NOT want to overstrike an existing coin (a common one, anyway)?
Most 1964 half dollars are essentially worth bullion value, and many millions have been melted over the years. At least this one is guaranteed a place in someone's collection.
When I host infrequent events (such as the ANA Summer Seminar field trip to my mint), I need something to demonstrate. So I come up with a different pair of "Moonlight Mint Open House" dies each year. Attendees are allowed to bring whatever they want (within reason) to have over-struck. So at least one of the attendees at a 2014 event brought a 1964 Kennedy.
That particular one came out very nice. They are usually not centered so well. The "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR" fits perfectly around the over-struck area. Also note that this over-strike is from 2014, which was the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar.
Finally someone found a good use for Kennedy half dollars!
Answer: To make a more beautiful collectors item! LOL, any "beautiful" bullion Kennedy half dollars below a certain grade are sent to my dealer's melt bucket.
Back in 1965 I was looking at a lady's accumulation of coins. She had about twenty rolls of 1964 Kennedy's. I told her they would NEVER be worth anything and to deposit them at the bank. Guess who called me when silver "took off." I'm glad she ignored my advice.
Thanks Dan, I really like the way this came out too.........really pretty and am proud to own it.

Looks pretty nice!
Very nice Stef.... I like Dan's rendition of Liberty there... she looks 'seductive'....rather than the typical 'frozen' look....
Cheers, RickO
Wow, that is a cool looking coin and counter stamped on my favorite year.
