Even though I know you only slightly, I hope you will reconsider. You Make a Difference Here. I bet you are tired; perhaps you had a bad show (I know, as a small dealer, it has happened to me more than once as well, and I am sure doing FUN is not cheap). Rest up for a while, lick your chops, and perhaps you will have a brighter outlook after a hiatus of some sort.
On the positive side, I had a ball at the FUN show. I found some good stuff to buy on the floor, had a great time socializing with folks I only see once or twice a year, and my consignment in the Heritage sale realized about 20% more than I was hoping it would. Already looking forward to being back in Orlando next year.
I can understand that. It’s an expensive endeavor. The market is in the tank and while I have won many pickups below bid on the bay retail remains very slow.
Unless new buyers enter market I expect the bids fall lower. Bullion upward move may save day on many.
Many who post here appear to be wealthy individuals with lots to spend.
Walking the bourse at a local show I saw many with overflowing cases with numismatic material nice stuff but I question how they are going to retail all this in the near term - there aren’t that many buyers with money to spend coming in the door.
I don't think providing a little positive encouragement and pointing out that I have enjoyed someone's posts is "begging them to stay." If you do, that's fine too. Have a good day.
Well that is strange..... I wonder why or how 'members here' influenced such a decision?
that would assign us power that none of us realize we have or want.
there was a time, perhaps around 2003-05, when members would say they were leaving by coming here and posting a thread such as this. I never understood it then and don't now.
@amwldcoin I don't know you other than from some of your posts, but hopefully after a short break you will decide to come back as it looks like there are at least a few people here who value your commentaries and opinion myself included.
I am not sure what happened, but this happened to me at the show.
A forum member said he was interested in some inventory I had so I hauled it to the FUN.
Member requested all my contact information and then NEVER stopped at the table. He was at the show however.
So don't let something like that stop you, some here super people.
You will continue meet people more are better and a few very few will let you down.
It's just that way.

I have thought long and hard after the post I made. After reading the posts and a PM or 2 I decided to respond.
It doesn’t help I came back from FUN with a nasty cold…thank God it isn’t the Flu! I came to the show knowing it would suck for me. I have seen it before and knew what to expect. Yeah…you can blame me for not spending the extra couple hundred bucks over being in the budget section… but FUN isolating us from the rest of the show is ludicrous!
The only reason I attended from the financial aspect is FUN is back in Orlando the next 3 years and unless they rent 2 rooms they can’t do us like this! I had quite a few more than one comment what FUN was doing to us in the Budget Section was wrong…unsolicited by the way! I would wager the Budget Section was lucky if we saw 20% of the people who attended the show!
I had a Lady Lawyer show up at my table mid afternoon Saturday complaining to me I had not listed my specialty as Barber Half’s in the show program. I don’t know if that is an option. She told me she had spent the last 3 days looking for the 50 full Liberty Barber Half’s she needed to complete a set she inherited from her father. She only needed 1 more and of course I had it! I could tell from her interaction she had settled for crap coins. She told me if I had found you 1st I would not of had to spend 3 days looking for what I needed. She seemed certainly upset with the coins she purchased after buying a nice original coin from me. I have no doubt if we had at least been next to the regular section instead of 2-300 feet away maybe she would have found me before she bought the crap she purchased. This is speculation but I would wager I am right!
My decision to take a leave from the forum has absolutely nothing to do with any interaction from any member here. It has to do with the overall attitude of those who are members here and are active attending coin shows. I had Great conversations with those I have met before…I hope I need not mention you here…and met 1 member I had not met before who is local to me. I think you know who you are as well!
I guess I am spoiled as far as forums, chatrooms etc. go. I came into the forum world via the ebay coin Chatroom…around 20 years ago. @Dpoole is the one who lured me into making my 1st post here. The comradery on the ebay coin forum blew or blows this place away! I still have friends I met from there. Ebay kindda killed it as it was before…to be honest I don’t know what it is like now. Back in the very late 90’s to early 2000’s we had a few years of get togethers at the FUN show! It was a blast and of around the probably 30-40 active participants 15-20 would convene for dinner and other stuff!
My reason for deciding to leave is this place doesn’t have an overall comradery. The biggest enjoyment I was looking forward to attending this show(FUN) ….knowing it wasn’t going to be profitable... was meeting members here I had not met before(most who have absolutely no interest in what I sell). I only met the one I mentioned earlier who is local to me and I believe the reason he searched me out.
I am tired and still sick…should probably proof read this a couple of times more before I post it. But I don’t want the friends I have here thinking they did something to upset me…Sure hope you know who you are!
Maybe at a future show someone can pick a restaurant and schedule an informal CU Coin Forum luncheon. Announce it here & whoever shows, shows....whoever doesn't, doesn't...

If I am not mistaken it has been tried many times before. PCGS Luncheon or nothing!

I’m sorry you had a bad show and you don’t feel well but why would you voluntarily spend money to have a table if you knew the show was going to “suck”?

What was the eBay Coin Chatrom camaraderie like? You have me curious now
I think the wheels may have been the location, I go to lots of conferences, I don't go to any in Tampa and I have lots of friends there, so I'm not knocking the town. The comradery is still here, but there's lots of the other kind of people here too. Also, it seems like a lot of really friendly people have died.
Not that it matters, but I too am a little puzzled. I get tired of some of the responses and in particular some members but just ignore them. Quite honestly I will take a hiatus for a bit as far as posting, but get too much amusement to not at least read some of the posts.
I am a bit sad there are not some of the rip-roaring arguments and craziness here, but moderation is necessary.
Anyway, cheers to feeling better....
Love that Milled British (1830-1960) Well, just Love coins, period.
Seems like the wheels are falling off the FUN bus. That is too bad.
Huh? Were you there? On Thursday and Friday, the place was crowded with people, the auctions were very busy, and all of the collectors I talked to were having a ball and already looking forward to next year. Yes, by Saturday, it was winding down but the first two days were great.

to do this takes someone being pro-active and actually trying to get it organized. during the time frame mentioned I made an effort, enlisted the help of others and meetings were arranged. what I learned is simple: if you want to do some sort of "forumite get-together" it needs to be done prior to the show, not spontaneously at the show as you meet members. we always did it 2-3 months ahead of time so people could plan and the attendance was good.
the best ones I attended were at FUN(luncheon), Baltimore ANA(crabfest), Pittsburgh ANA(Church Brewery) and a few times at the MSNS Thanksgiving Show where a forum member was the bourse chairman.
I had to change the tensioner pulley, idler pulley and serpentine belt outside, and in front of the shop last week. It was so cold (-12 degrees Fahrenheit).
I swore I was never going to live another year in Nebraska, let alone come back to the B&M. Then, last night someone bought a coin on ebay from me and I had to come back here to ship it. Life sucks, but what can I do ? I guess I could be a janitor for Legend and sweep up the dreck and widgets that nobody there seems to want to deal with.
On that note, with respect to camaraderie..... it's impossible to have, with all the egos that permeate our coin world.

I was in Southern Arizona soaking up the 77 degree weather. Seems that the seller side was grousing about poor location, tough PCGS grading (as if that is a negative) and lack of quality material to buy.
My experience is different. I've meet and maintained friendships with several members from these boards from all walks of life. They are several others that I haven't been able to connect YET but I look forward to the day I do. Personally I didn't come to FUN because it was in Tampa this year. I do look forward to coming to Orlando next year.

Walker Proof Digital Album Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Inspired by Amwldcoin’s observation about a “lack of camaraderie” on the boards:
I do see that some members know each other, and seek each other out at shows. I think that’s great.
But a question for the masses: How many board members can you call a friend, or at least acquaintance? Would you attend a planned social function at a major (or minor) show? (You don’t HAVE to answer....I think this has been discussed in the past).
I ran those questions through my little head, and honestly came up with “None”, and “Probably not”.
Now, I could identify a few major and minor dealers who post here. I’ve bought from them, and had conversations with them. But I’m pretty sure none of them could identify me.
Maybe I’m just anti-social. I have been accused of that...and frankly, at the age of 54, I’ve grown to be OK with it.
But honestly, I don’t know which of you are loony. (And to be fair, you don’t know if I’m loony). I really doubt I’d plan my day to show up at a local restaurant just itching to have a meal with a random set of people I don’t know. It’s not “me”.
On the other hand, if we had a “CU Lounge”....”We’re planning to meet at the 3rd bench south of the main entrance at 11am and 3pm. Stop by for a few minutes if you want”....I probably would. Shake a few hands, share a few NEWPS. No great commitment. I could see doing that.....
Collecting, for me, is a personal endeavor. I honestly don’t feel cheated by being a loner. But I guess it would be nice to know a few of the faces and personalities behind the avatars. Just don't ask too much of me....
Tommy, your thinking is causing you to miss a lot. my attitude is that when I go to a show I have to eat. I have met enough forum members face-to-face and formed enough friendships here that the meal gatherings are always one of the best things about the show.
@amwldcoin you are 100% correct. I seen the "budget section" and it implied in part is was not the same standard as to the other tables. I did however purchase the Franklin complete set from that section, but In thinking about you, I probable should of spent all my money in that section. The people at those tables did look like they came to sell and they had just as good as anyone else items. Being an elder crowd it was a hike to get to that side of the room.
In 2009 I was at the FUN in Orlando. I recall the budget section being in the back. I recall there were some good coins at good prices back there. I'd certainly make the trip back there again!
