It is really, really important to learn the diagnostics of key dates such as the 1889-CC Morgan before ever contemplating buying one raw. One of the most useful little books for professional coin dealers that I ever saw was Bill Fivaz's Counterfeit Detection Guide, a little spiral-bound thingie that fits easily in a shirt pocket. All the years that I was a cataloger for Heritage (and since), I used to carry it around and when I was examining and describing key dates that were the real deal, I would add to Fivaz's notes if it was an issue he covered in the book -- and write other diagnostics for things that he didn't cover, such as the 25c 1913-S, and the 50c 1878-CC and 1878-S. My edition is copyright 2001, I'm not sure if it's still in print or not.
Here's what I turned up on eBay:

Excellent book.... Wow... what a prolific shyster....Thanks for the heads up... Cheers, RickO
I have one of Bill's original books before it was published. It has the actual photographs that were used in the book! Only problem with it is it is too big to put in your pocket!
Over 400 Uncirculated 1889-CC fakes sold? Ya right.
School me please. What is it about this that screams fake ?

I looked quickly through the first page of his listings and nothing looked fake to me. Dreck perhaps, but I didn't see anything that screamed fake.

He has lotsa good feedback so you would have a hard time getting him in trouble for a few fakes/
He’s making lotsa dough for eBay.

I don’t know about fake because it is hard to tell from iPhone but lots unc coins he sold looks cleaned or au to me. Here is the list of sold coin.

The seller uses descriptive words that do not fit the condition with the majority of the coins, mostly hype and his + key is slap wore out.

The current 89cc he has up was sold yesterday and then relisted immediately. Note the die crack that goes from her cap through the S to the rim. Same die crack on the one sold and in the present listing. I could not vam this dollar and tried. Perhaps someone else can.
I see no problems with the rest of his dollars except his photography hides cleanings and his grades are very inflated.

Nothing jumps out. O.118.
Lance.
The die crack from the cap through the S to rim is on the 89CC VAM 2a with the raised 9 in date. I looked at the 89 CC's sold and the coins appear genuine . The seller has a lot of snake in his listings. The 89CC sold on 12/20 is not MS (at best AU50 cleaned) and not proof like.
Most of his coins are not fake. HOWEVER, I have been reporting him for some time now, for having a grade on the holder. This is deceptive because they are WAY over graded. It is also illegal. I got enough of his coins removed that he has started marking through the grade to try and get away with still showing it. PLEASE report him for illegally showing grades on raw coins. I usually do his top 10 most expensive coins, to get those removed.
Some people have too much time on their hands!
From " 99.9% of his coins are counterfeit..." to "Most of his coins are not fake. " in less than 10 hours, looks like your strategy is working

Thanks for the warning; I mentioned this ebay scammer to my friends Mario and Guido who were going to head over to his place and work him over with lead pipes, but I was able to get them calmed down as they were very hot under the collar!
Thanks

I want to remind people when they buy raw coin on ebay or even slab coin they need to be very careful. There is always a good reason why the coin is cheap. After all it may not be cheap at all if is fake.
Not sure if you didn't notice I am not the original poster. The OP thought his coins are fake, I don't. I just think he's a crummy seller who deceives buyers buy going against ebay policy and putting high MS grades on his holders.

So XF (harshly cleaned) is the new Choice +++++++++++++++ Unc.
I can't believe he sells anything.
Private bidder - identity protected; on all the bidding including the $2000 1899 CC Morgan currently on active bidding.
I don't understand how any seller would kid him/herself bidding on their own and then what? Paid their own minus minus fees? I don't get how this work for their advantage. Please let me know your perspective on this type of scam.
I looked through his listings and I don't see anything that looks obviously fake. But he does have an 1886 and an 1887 Morgan dollar that are listed as proofs that I am pretty sure are not.ebay.com/itm/1887-CAMEO-KEY-PROOF-MORGAN-SILVER-DOLLAR/391951428443?hash=item5b42202b5b:g:rWoAAOSwi0xaQ2A0
click on the #'s of bidders and you'll see all "private bidding - bidder identity protected; a red flag if it's consistent with all the biddings IMHO.
If the seller is indeed doing this, then after they win their own item, they simply cancel the sale and relist (so no fees). In doing this, they hope to create excitement for an item and bait somebody into bidding.
Worse yet, some sellers will take advantage of an early bidder. So lets say after a coin is listed, a few initial bids are placed on the coin. What the seller/shill does is bid the minimum amount over and over until they beat the maximum bid of the early bidder. Then, they retract their last bid. That way, they ensure the early bidder's maximum bid amount is realized. Pretty shady.
If that's the case or on any similar case; it could only be done thru different eBay account but same owner right?
I'll stay away then.
I think we should send oldcoins77 the link to this discussion and see what his lawyers feel about it.

What Federal Statue is being broken here that is illegal? Is it a criminal or civil statue?
Well I can tell from his auctions a few things -
1) He has decent handwriting
2) He is including a numeric grade in his photos which is against eBay rule...not sure how lightly marking through the numeric grade with a red pen and writing +++++ gets past them
3) He can't grade very well, at least not according to conventional standards. Even I, a lowly non dealer collector, can see that his MS-64 UNC +++++ is AU at best.
4) He needs a better hand soap....(see the proof Morgan link above) maybe Lava or something like that!
I looked through his auctions and nothing really jumped out at me as fake either but for the prices people are evidently paying in his sold auctions they should be buying slabbed coins instead of raw IMO.

Perfectly legal but I think he means it is against eBay rules not anyone's laws. It pretty much looks like 90% of country auctions of coins. A good idea for the bidders? No. Illegal or a "scam", not really.
The OP should really reconsider this link. I think the allegations being made here are of more questionable legality than the coin auctions.

I meant it is against ebay policy. So not a crime, but illegal on their site.
To Op why the interest in this seller since this is your first coin posting?
Also did you purchase bid and sell or purchase it wink wink?
