Tale of two "tails." 1964-D Type "C" Reverse Washington.
I've been looking, and wanting a Type C reverse in my collection. I find these transitional pieces quite fascinating, and I viewed this as a "must need" for my collection. The subtle differences may be a meh....for the casual collector; however, I believe any advanced collector of Washington Quarter's should not be lacking this variety. It's too cool...
Well, I bought an uncirculated type C at the Defiance coin club show last Saturday, and was pretty happy with purchase. I paid a bit more than I wanted but was pleased none the less...
When I got home while looking at this example, I realized I never checked my stack for this variety...I checked all '64-D's in my books, binder, mint sets, and slabs...but never checked the stack.
I found one in my stack...pretty disappointed in myself, and probably wouldn't have bought one knowing I already had one; yet so goes my year...paying up for coins I don't need, paying more for coins I really want, and paying less for coins I don't really need but knowing it's a good deal, and shouldn't pass up. I guess I'm any dealers friend. ![]()
My resolution for this new year is to stop the madness...I have to get this hobby working for me instead of it bleeding me dry! Have you been there? Which one do you like the best? Thanks.
Uncirculated I bought at show- MS60-MS62

My pick in stack- AU55-AU58.

At one point I had six or seven but don't collect the series so I saw many did not have this coin or could not find one and I had 6 or so in my hoard so I put them all up for sale.
Hoard the keys.
Nice find in your stack, but I think your purchase was warranted. Your stack find looks like it has road rash.
The stack coin has a "rash" yet I prefer it. Keep them both for now. At one time, I couldn't get $40 each for two VF 1916/16 nickels. Finally sold both to a savvy dealer for $60. Trends change. One day quarters may get hot. Even the clads are not appreciated by most who don't collect the series.
Nice pick up and nice to find one already at home. It's a quarter that is on my list to pick from the local dealers around here. I have not been fortunate enough yet to find one, but I'll keep looking.
good grief... how old are you ?
haha j/k
Nice! I've never picked one and have looked at a LOT of 1964-D's. I friend of mine has found around 6 of them, and actually gave me one of his...
It is always nice to find a 'treasure' in one's own stack/pile of coins... sure, one hope's to find it before buying one, but still, a great deal. Cheers, RickO
