I bought this specimen at the Defiance Coin Club show in N.W. Ohio today. I was happy with all purchases- aside from pinching for the holiday I was able to get a nice unc. '64-D Washington with "C" reverse too. I'll save that one for another thread.
Here is the '28-D. All pictures of doubling run counter clockwise across obverse. Nothing is jumbled back clockwise; yet, the doubling appears shelf in most parts. I think Liberty is DDO, IDK about the rest. The pictures of the doubling on coin is adequate; however, the picture of obverse, and reverse of full coin isn't the best compared to closeups. I'd put coin at MS63. It is a weak strike, and common for date/branch mint.
What do you think? Especially on doubling with Liberty. Thanks, Rich.

Classic machine doubling.
Thanks for the heroic job you did to document your coin. Unfortunately the doubling looks like MDD. It is, for the most part directional like you said, except for a small shift in the other direction on the left side of the stem of the 2 in the date.
This type of "damage" happens to a lesser extent on a number of Buffalo Nickels.........your is kind of severe.
The good part is that your coin is uncirculated. There is no apparent rub on the hip or the indians cheek. The reverse looks like a later die state, with a lot of flow lines. It's also kinda dinged up. The strike is also a little weak.
I think your coin will grade MS-63 (choice) and has nice color.

It is all shifted right, and the date wasn't the best photo BuffaloIronTail. Here's another so as not to cheat the hangman.
I was confidant that Liberty had a shot a a DD- notching in "L" and the shift in "B." Just seemed odd. I haven't seen a lot of mechanical doubling on these nickels so I trust both your judgement. Just thought odd that all shifted "right," and the "liberty," has me baffled. It certainly appears mechanical on most devices. Just that Liberty...Thanks.

It can be deceptive. It is common on this (and most other) series.
And I'll second the comment about your images-they are excellent!
Excellent images... and I can understand your feeling on the Liberty shift.... but still, machine doubling. Cheers, RickO
