Old San Francisco mint souvenir - still "slabbed"!

Just found this long-lost souvenir in a forgotten box. It's from a 1994 trip to the Old Mint, when you got to visit inside the building. From what I've read, I don't think you can do this anymore. ☹

Nice! The Mint is open to tour; I was there about 2 years ago.
Pretty cool!

I think that was due to 9/11 but think there back to normal operations.
Was out in sf in the early 90s and took their tour. Back then, they had a nice display of sf gold in the basement. A line-backer sized guard told us no pictures allowed if the gold display. He followed us around to make sure we didnt get a pic. In the coining room, they allowed you to set the planchet and punch out your own mint nedal. Still have it.
Many successful BST transactions with dozens of board members, references on request.
Somehow I think 'The Granite Lady' in downtown S.F. is presently mostly shuttered because it can't meet today's earthquake codes. Maybe special events? Needs very expensive retrofitting. California.
Nice !!!
I made this one myself years ago and had it slabbed a while back when I had an extra submission... PCGS MS66+ RD. Pretty much a must if you mainly collect SF mint issues
.
I have heard there have been changes to what the SF mint tour includes these days, although I have not investigated exactly what they are. San Francisco is great for coin tourism... you have the mint, and I also highly recommend the Union Bank Museum (huge gold rush exhibit with coins, notes, nuggets, etc.), the Wells Fargo Bank museum, and Witter Coins, a great B&M shop downtown.
Nice souvenirs... I spent time in San Francisco... Lived just outside in Mountain View, CA. I never did go to the Mint there..This was in the 70's.... Was too busy with the party life... work, party, work, party.... found a little time to sleep...
Cheers, RickO
I posted mine a while back. I went there in the early 1980's, and you could strike it yourself.
Funny you should post this. I have the same medal sitting on my desk right now. It's pretty neat.
