Summary,
A fellow apartment complex resident turned in my registered parcel (albeit opened), to the complex manager. I arrived and completed an inventory, nothing missing, and relieved to say the least. I wish others had this outcome.
Wil

Team ,

I consider myself a RKI, but my recent NGC reholder submission for 2 coins at $ 10k , were sent back completed and delivered to the incorrect address and signed for by, “Individual.”

I know it’s not NGCs fault , but any insight or legal help would be appreciated. I will be working with the local sheriff , then the USPS Postal Inspector.

When confronted today, the postal employee that does the daily delivery was indifferent to the matter, and could have cared less. (IMHO she put them in the wrong box) , so, I guess I will need to post them as stolen if they resurface.

Heck, NGC PR 66 1858 J-204
NGC MS 62 1857 S9 Clash

My Heart Sinks, I spent 11 years trying for a PR 66 “crooked eagle.” My god, what a kick in the face.

Regards , Wil

Talk to your post master immediately for package retrieval. I've had this happen to me before and it makes you anxiety ridden.. the PO really messed up. Best of Luck..

Ouch! Hopefully you will get your coins back. I had a registered package stolen. Had pic's......sent to Doug at Numismatic crime prevention and got a hit quickly from a dealer that bought them. Unfortunately as far as I know(from talking to a few with experience) they will be sold at an auction at some time or another if they were recovered. The Postal Inspector said we need to get those for evidence and that was the last I heard! I did get paid after submitting my claim 3 or 4 times though.

Good luck with the recovery and don't allow yourself to get sick as the postal inspectors are pretty swift.

I had a much less expensive coin be delivered at a different address. I contacted the postal inspector as soon as I seen it had been signed for not by anyone at my residence. They said they would take action.. about 2 weeks later the package was delivered to my house. Hopefully you get your coins back. That can be frustrating for sure.

Don't forget the local coin/pawn shops.....get the word out and tell them you've notified the police and please if they see them get the ID of the perp.

    I get envelopes for neighbors

Occasionally their entire set of letters for the day

Check with the upstream and downstream neighbors

But notify the post master. The driver should have suggested it.

Misdelivered package should be covered under NGC's insurance. Are they in the loop?

Get on your postmaster or your local consumer/public affairs office that normally works somewhere near the postmaster.

    what type of usps shipping?
Signature confirmation should show address delivered to, can be viewed online with tracking number.
You need to speak to the usps supervisor at the branch your carrier works out of, carrier won't be so indifferent with the supervisor.

You said you think carrier delivered to the wrong box, but wasn't a signature obtained?

The post master (supervisor) at YOUR post office can see what address within feet where the package was delivered when it is scanned. This has happened to me many times with all the temp carriers on my route, and your right they don't care but the super does. All but one of my packages showed up later, I hope for you it was delivered to an honest person and they realized it was not for them and they return it to you.

I would say the vast majority of carriers DO care. There's no excuse for the indifference you encountered and I would emphasize the attitude of that particularcarrier when you contact the Postmaster. Anything worth 10 grand would damn sure require a signature so they can certainly follow up on that.

That is terrible.... I am sure you are reporting this in detail to the Post Office.... They can usually trace a package of this value that was signed for.... I had one package that said it was delivered... and it was not.... (not a great value and no signature)...They came out and canvassed the neighborhood and streets on both sides...had GPS records too... never found it. However, a $10K package is very significant..... I hope you get them back. Let us know... Cheers, RickO

I agree with this. Had a prior carrier who regularly put my ebay purchases that did not require signatures in the mailboxes of homes to either side of mine. Thankfully the neighbors were honest and gave them to us. He was confronted each time and claimed not to have made a mistake. Now we have a carrier who has actually looked to see if my car is in the driveway on her way back to the PO if a signature package is on the truck and I was not home from work when she first stopped by. She is getting a nice fat gift card for xmas this week.

In my experience about half care, the other half do not. At least in my market.

Stuff should be shipped with signature required. I would follow other's people's recommendations. That esoteric rarity will be very hard to fence if stolen. It's too bad we can't get private eyes to work on contingency as many of them have advanced tools.

Even registered mail isn't required to be signed for by the addressee unless you pay "extra" for restricted delivery.

As noted contact local PO supervisor of your route to run a GPS tracking. The procedure is for the mail carrier is to scan the package at address, and the GPS will provide the address at scan. The GPS address can be off a house where the package was delivered. The post office will most likely not give you the scan address because they do not want you knocking on doors causing trouble.

    Update
Well, NGC is in the loop, postal route supervisor advised me today he reported the matter to the postal inspector, postal complaint filed, theft report filed with the local sheriff, missing coins posted to my NGC registry noting they are considered stolen property at this point.
I will be filing a complaint with the apt complex home office.
I confronted the USPS carrier today, and she literally told me one of my neighbors must have it. I kindly advised her that a missing registered 10k parcel is gonna raise some significant issues in the next few days.....blood drained from her face.

Thank you for all the feedback.

I know, I’m not surprised, but it’s as almost as if he knows the carrier messed up and throwing her to the system ? Of course, i’m on the outside looking in.
