    I don't think a slab adds a whole heck of a lot of value to that coin, so I voted crack it out.

    Crack. I had the same dilemma with a PCGS XF40 trade dollar. It now sits in my 7070. I think a circulated and chopped trade is the right example for a 7070.

    A chopmarked 1873-P Trade $ can have quite a bit of value. I would leave that one in the holder IF it has a numerical grade. Crack it out only if it has a details grade.

    It already sort of looks like it was made in China so leave it in the slab for authenticity reasons.

    Looked up the cert# at PCGS. If it was straight-graded, I would have said keep the slab. Since it is XF Details - 98 Damage, I say crack it.

    Personally I hate chop marks. I would not hold the coin either in the slab nor in the 7070.

    If it is XF details - damage, you should resubmit it for re-consideration. Does PCGS grade all chop marked coins as damaged? They shouldn't.

    There looks to be some damage besides the typical chopmark damage.

    What to do really depends on the context of the set/collection.

    I've seen other threads that indicate it depends on the series. Trade Dollars can be designated as "Chop Mark" with a straight grade. Other series, such as Seated Halves with a chop mark, could not be designated as "Chop Mark" and would be left with only the details grade/Damaged option.

    In addition to the chop marks (which, maybe you’re into but would be a major distraction for many, especially in a type album) there are major scratches on the reverse. You can easily find a better one.

    I got it in today and I did buy it to specifically place in the 7070 but it does look nice in the slab! Being that it does have a tru view, I don't think it would be an issue if I crack it and decide to sell at some later date because it is unique due to chopmarks to show it's authenticity.
