LASIK for your Dog or buy another coin?

So lets say your dog is about 10 years old and has developed cataracts in both eyes.
Would you get LASIK surgery for Fido instead of buying another pricey coin?

My one dog had $13,000 worth of knee surgeries.
LASIK in a heartbeat. My malamute would never hike more than 20 feet in front of me without looking back to make sure I was coming. He would do anything for me, so I would do the same.
I've got two dogs and they're fantastic, but they're working dogs, not necessarily pets......... I'm probably not the best guy to ask....... Roughly how much $$ are we talking about?
Everyone’s situation is different— some people can drop $5000 for their dog no problem, for other that’s a financial stretch. But coins Vs dogs is an easy one for me.
No price on my dogs well being. He comes first.

Correct me if I'm wrong, though, but I believe LASIK and cataract surgery are two different procedures... So, if you are going to get LASIK for a dog with cataracts, you might as well buy the coin, because it'll have the same effect on the dog's vision. ;-)

You dog will be fine with normal cataract surgery. LASIK is not for cataracts, human or canine. Should cost about $300 for a 10 yr old dog
I agree with Roger, Lasik corrects vision not cataracts. (could do both but not necessary for cataracts). Should be pretty inexpensive.

LOL, I really understand all of these posts. My father had a professional photographer do a portfolio of his dog. The German Shepard must have been Marylyn Monroe reincarnated as the photos were beautiful - I don't know how they got that "ham" to remain still for the all the different poses. Anyway, when the dog died, he cried for days and refused to get another one. My father was a human being.
My brother was an only child. I was not even on the family tree! You see, I was part owner of the neatest, gorgeous, "bullet-proof," Quarter Horse God put on this earth. He was like a "dressage trained" dog! When he heard the sound of my "fun car" coming up the stable drive, he would leave the heard and be waiting for me by the gate. I never had to catch him for a ride. We were together EVERY DAY (the teenage girl part of my life) for three years. Nevertheless, When he needed some major medical attention (my share $8,000) I said "put him down!
They didn't and I
bought several coins with the money that wonderful animal would have cost me. He continued to treat me like gold as animals don't know what a "cold" heart a curmudgeon can have.

ya I thought LASIK was so the dog could drive without his glasses? Cataracts is sumpin different, I'm no eye doctor but I think its when they slice out the lens and put a plastic one in
I had a dog years ago that liked to eat rocks from the backyard. That one cost me about $800 for the surgery to remove it at the Texas A&M vet hospital. I kept the rock for years as an $800 pet rock. It was either the $800 or the dog was going to die and I just couldn't stand to do that. I had another dog impale itself on an arrow that fell out of a quiver when it jumped up on someone who was on their way to go bow hunting. The broad head went right through its chest. Rushed it to the vet clinic for emergency surgery. I am sitting here typing as that dog is watching me. Spent over $1,000 for that one and am still amazed the dog lived. I had a 2 female dogs that needed C sections. They each cost me over $500. My luck with dogs is great.
Cataracts, not sure I would do that one. I am more of a life threatening kind of guy. I have had dogs lose their eyesight before and it is very sad but it normally was due to old age and the normal progression of life.
Chemo for the daughter or a new coin ? C'mon !! Is this a real question? Of course the dog....

As others have said this is a no-brainer for me. If it came to it I would sell coins to pay to it if I had no other way.

Never had a doggo, but did have a blind cat once. She didn't care, so long as there was food in here bowl and she got belly rubs regularly.

I would pay for the dog's eye surgery over a coin FWIW.
Never had a dog, no desire to ever have one, so it would be an easy choice (or no choice, actually.)

When I had Greyhounds, I did everything for them that I could. They came first.

My dogs will always come first. Eye glasses, implants, peg leg no matter my dogs are priority over coins.
I'll just adopt a retired seeing eye dog for my dog & keep buying coins.

I'd either shop around for a cut rate deal, offer 30% of what the big boy veterinary ophthalmologist wants; look at alternative remedies (eye salves?) or wait for recommendations from others. "Festina lente". Vs. coins? Only buy what you can afford that adds to your hobby, unless you find a great deal.
If it's for the two dogs on the left, it's a no brainer...Lasik! The dog on the right, that's another story. What kind of coin are we talking about? ; )
I work with a fellow who had three dogs and a cat - all from the Humane Society Pound. He has spent several thousand dollars on them in 2016 and 2017. One had to be put down. The critters are lucky to have him.
I told him not to visit the pound with his wife any more.
Plus, they are sighthounds, they need their eyesight!
Seriously, the dog's health comes in first to any material item. That said, not everything needs to be treated and quality of life matters. When my old girl had bone cancer (sadly common-ish in greyhounds) we did not spend money on anything other than making her comfortable. BUT I would have sold every coin if she had something treatable.

In my very limited experience, I've noticed that there are cats (mean, aloof, princesses) and there are dogs trapped in a cat's body that are affectionate, curious, playful, - everything like a dog - a man's best friend.
