Bower & Merena Harry Bass auction catalogs

ExbritExbrit Posts: 1,382 ✭✭✭✭

I am trying to research a coin that was sold in one of the Harry Bass collection auctions handled by Bower & Merena. I am specifically looking for information from the:

Part 2) Oct 1999; Part 3) May 2000; Part 4) Nov 2000 auctions

If you have one or more of the catalogs and would not mind looking up a lot or four for me, please send me a PM or reply here.

Thank you

They used to be online. Did you try internet search?

I'm trying to identify a coin and the images are not on-line, just the lot information.

Got them right here in my office. Let me know what you need.

Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

No luck with the auction catalogs as three of four did not have images. End of this thread. Thanks to those who helped.

I am interested in looking up a coin from the same auction. Specifically lot number 1072 in Part II, which is an 1855-D $5 PCGS AU58.

These catalogs should be in the NNP database.

I tried finding these Bass sale catalogs on the Newman Numismatic Portal,
    but I couldn't find them.
    I started from this link:
    https://nnp.wustl.edu/
Then I chose "Auction Companies" from the Categories on the left.
Bowers & Merena is not listed.
And the Stacks-Bowers section does not include these Bass sale catalogs.

I am having trouble finding the Bass catalogs on the NNP, as well.
Can anyone suggest search terms to find these catalogs?
In the past, the complete set of catalogs could be found on the Harry W Bass Jr Foundation website (www.hbrf.org), but were removed a few years ago.
    Many thanks.

In case you don’t know the Goliad Corp was Longtime Dallas dealer Mike Brownlee, who was also Harry’s “in house” coin guru.

Surprising to me, I was able to find at least some of the original info that had been on the old Bass site still at the Internet Archive Wayback Machine - https://archive.org/ . They are not on the NNP site for any Bowers & Ruddy or Bowers & Merena auctions. Apparently permission has not been given to put them there.

Here is a link to the Prices Realized menu for the four auctions. It has some short text description on each line of prices. Did not check if everything is there, but some pages definitely do not work.

Also, at least some of the catalog pages are there. Spot checked a couple and some photos are included but many are missing.

Wow - that 1855-D looks superb and MS-63?

    @WinLoseWin
Thanks for the informative post. Hopefully, the NNP will have the Bass catalogs someday, but the archive will do for now. I found the coin I was looking for. Thanks again.
