Is the mint having a difficult time unloading their inventory?

LanLordLanLord Posts: 11,756 ✭✭✭✭✭

I seem to get an email from them everyday telling me what a great deal they have in store for me.

If they didn't have a bunch of junk on the shelves, I wouldn't think they'd be spamming their email list like this.
Bad year for sales or just horrible selection of junk this year?

Kind of a combo...crap for sale evidenced by items issued in 2010 still available AND, with many items, too many produced

The last chance sales seem to be on stuff that nobody really wants at prices that nobody really wants to pay.

For example, their Lions Club and Boys Town Commemorative Coins.
The designs are ugly, anybody that buys them will immediately lose money. The mintages are thru the roof so those that wanted them already have them yet they STILL can't sell them out!

Maybe they need to start producing some, uh hem, error's? Remember the Birth Year Sets that had 90% Silver Kennedy's? They sold out in a jiff!

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

One beautiful Coin that seems poised to "Fly under the Radar" is that Starry Headed Liberty Coin. The one with the bold design and the low mintage.

I can't afford whatever the Mint wants for it now. But hopefully in 2 years I'll have hit the lottery and can buy it off GC for under $20,000.

    Hopefully.

As of 26 November, the sales of the American Liberty 225th Anniversary $100 Gold on (the Starry-headed Lady) were up to 26286 units. With one month remaining(?), will probably break 27,000 units. The related silver medal was 51,000+'in the single unit option.

It will only be $20,000 in two years if gold is at least $30,000 per Troy ounce.

More bimetalic varieties would be interesting. They haven't made many of them.

I would certainly like to see Fractional Gold Buffalos issued again, maybe just as a one year deal.

It is my understanding that the price for privately-produced pure gold blanks is something higher than normal.

Too many games. I quit buying anything from the mint. I can do better things for my collection with that same money.

They are still offering the 2016 Walker and SLQ in gold. Wow, I'll never get that money back.

Betting on mint issues for the future is - for the most part - a losing proposition...Once in a while it happens, however, rarely has it been predicted. Cheers, RickO
