Durango rocks. A beautiful area, Durango, thr Animas valley and the San Juan mountains. I went to college at FLC and loved living in Durango for 4 years.
Not sure if someone misunderstood but I’m not in CO either. I’m from a rural part of a sparsely populated Rocky Mountain state where big-city agendas don’t yet have sway over everything....... and that’s the way I like it.
I keep checking this thread everyday. I am very excited at the potential opportunity and amazing experience this position would bring. Travel, amazing coins, getting to do something I LOVE to do already. It's like Willy Wonka whipped up the perfect dream job and said, "Don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he ever wanted. They lived happily ever after..."

My problem with where PCGS is located is that my modest 4 bedroom home would be like $1m+ there lol.
You can get a 4 bdrm home around Newport Beach for $1m+? Wow. Where I come from (Silicon Valley) it would be closer to $2m+ with a postage stamp backyard.
I agree with Bryce. CA is gorgeous but the gov't is inept and political climate is toxic.
Lance.
LOL I meant a ways inland... like a 1hr commute, I'm still looking at stupid house prices. So unless PCGS is paying me crazy money...
One hour inland, Fade to Black? Welcome to the third world. Poverty like nothing else in this country. It's a shame. A dirty rotten shame. And you'll still have to pay way, way over what any house here is really worth. It's a crime. BUT.....you can't beat the weather or the scenery. And Oh, those mountains! Unfortunately that's about all we've got to offer anymore. A dirty rotten crying shame. Hope it doesn't spread to you all. I got my doubts. Yea, we got problems out here. Plenty of them.
Any community in Califonia from San Diego to the Oregon border that is close to the Ocean (say 30 to 40 miles) and that is middle class or better economically has seen home values explode over the past 4 to 5 years. It is good for long time owners and very tough on first time homebuyers.
Sounds like it would be a blast, especially if it branches out to 3-D/VR type photography. Loved your moving luster photos on Instagram, that seems to be a happening place for coin photo stuff.
While this is an excellent opportunity for the right person, also be aware that photographing coins on a production-line basis quickly becomes drudgery. There is a never ending flow of items and a schedule to be met. There is no time to enjoy the coins regardless of your personal interest or experience.
This is not intended as a negative - it's a chance to do something very uncommon in the coin business and be paid for it - but face it with reality in mind.
[In the 1970s I took thousands of coin photos at eastern US shows. I barely had time to look at a coin before moving to the next piece.]
I wouldn't mind an occasional trip to Paris to play with coins for a few days, but could never swing the living expenses of California.

Living in Illinois is the same as California, but without the nice weather. I'd say the house prices are also much cheaper, but the property taxes are such that we pretty much just rent from the government.
Spent a good chunk of my life living in SoCal and the Monterey peninsula as well as the central valley and Lake Tahoe. Last visited in 2000 and have never missed any part of the state. I wish those who live there well, it can be maddening.
Southern California suits me well. The Canadian winters I grew up with didn't so much.
PCGS is technically "closed" today, sort of. We are moving into our new building and everything's getting set up. I hope to have a full job description and application link available this week sometime.

We pay ridiculous state income taxes, have insanely high tolls everywhere, real estate taxes through the roof and we're still broke. Real well run state we live in eh? lol
I have not used the site so I’m not sure what the issue may be. Applications through ziprecruiter go directly to our HR department. I’ve not seen your work.

I was joking. You don't want to see my work. Trust me.

@FadeToBlack I'm sure the money is ... well it has to be OK right? Look at what you'd be playing with all day ... super awesome-sauce coins...

I would apply for the job but I live in Northern California so it would be one hell of a commute
me if I lived closer, I would be all over this.
Great opportunity, wish PCGS was closer to CT.

My property tax on my 4 bedroom house on an acre on main street is $128 a year. I'll never leave Kansas. Saves me money for coins.
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
Sigh. I pay more than that each week for 4 BR on < 10K sq. ft.

I have tried to apply four times and every time I hit the link it says 'page not found'. Is this because you have already seen my work?

I once used a plastic brownie camera
Does that count for anything other than being very old?
Thanks for the correction!

I understand that coins are pictured out of slabs, so is there no checking of what you have or does picturing cause more mechanical errors?
guess which is a half and which is a dollar?
