My pocket pieces 10 years later
It clangs n bangs alongside a Peace buck and a Morgan in my pocket. I've even gone back home to get all 3, pretty much with me everyday. Straight out of a tube 10 years ago. The 90% bucks also started out in Unc. condition.

Best get that slabbed before it wears down to a dime!

Another 10 years and it will probably qualify for top (or is it bottom) place in a low ball set.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Do you wear a belt by chance?
Lance.
Why yes I do.
Nice circ Walker
Interesting, but weird looking. I think the wear on the pocket piece is biased toward hard hits from big coins, making it look beat down more than worn. Rims are still quite strong, and I wonder if the initial strength of the rims protects the coin from wear more than the rims on a Morgan or Peace dollar do. An interesting experiment would be to start with two ASEs, file the rims just a little on one of them, and observe the wear patterns on both coins when used as pocket pieces.

the eagle is awesome
This is way cool, a decade of wear. Thanks for sharing this ongoing experiment.
I hope you collected the silver that wore off, lol.
.999 is very soft.. such a cool experiment. Thanks for sharing!
The alloy in the ,900 fine coins makes a big difference when it comes to wear!
Very cool
Cool, thanks for the images.
I feel better now.....there is someone else affected with my pocket piece/wear affliction.
Love the eagle.
The Morgan and Peace look like typical wear. The Silver Eagle looks damaged. Softer silver I guess?

Would you possibly sell that Eagle?
I had 10 years so I win all the change in the pocket right
Best place to buy !

Nice example of why they did not use .999 silver for coinage. Thanks for sharing.
I could never part with it, sorry. The ASE is still 31.1 grams, after all the punishment.
That is a fascinating experiment. I've thought of doing something similar, but I never started it out. How did the Morgan and Peace grade when you started?

What else is in that pocket and how hard are you banging yourself around??? I've had a norfed oz, a peace dollar, my wallet, other change in my pocket for years and there is barely any noticeable wear on the norfed.
Interesting experiment...the wear on the ASE seems to be more abrasion than loss of silver and that is confirmed by the weight you posted....So, one can conclude that like metals, confined and moving against each other, produce damage rather than wear - if we define 'wear' as loss of metal, such as experienced in commerce. Cheers, RickO
Nice experiment.
Wouldn't it be a laugh if you sent them in for grading and they came back 'Details' for cleaning (hairlines).

very cool. i would have lost them by now.
A 10 yr pocket piece would be like selling a child. A price that would tempt him would be far and above what it's worth most likely.
The Peace and Morgan started out as low Unc. 63 ish.
How about before & after pics?

Forgot to mention, the older coins seemed to endure the wear & tear much better. Their images are just slowly fading away while the SAE is all mushy. I wonder what the science is behind that?
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Tried to do the same several years ago but lost them within a year......
Then bought a rock tumbler and filled it with coins and denim, trying to accelerate the "in my pocket" process - they all came out ugly and polished looking.
I was going to ask about the weight but saw above that you had addressed it. If I were to have guessed I would have said somewhere in the neighborhood of 29.8 - 30.1 grams. Amazing it has maintained full weight standard.
Jeff
