Stopped by a local shop to snoop for cherries in 1950-1964 proof sets.
Cherries were found.
The shop had new inventory of these sets acquired from an older collector. I suspect that the collector obtained multiple sets from the mint each year and held onto them until he sold them to the shop. These sets contain "runs" of coins produced from fresh dies (as Keets has discussed before).
I picked out a number of sets to purchase. The shop owner set them aside for me and we agreed upon a price. I plan to return to the shop later this week to complete the purchase and pick them up. After I pick up the sets I will provide updates, with photos of some of the new cherries.

Going to go back to the shop tomorrow to complete the purchase. Thought I would provide more information, to be followed later by photos.
I have visited the shop many times over the years and have found some very nice Cameos that I purchased. Have not been to the shop since February or March of this year. During my last visit the shop owner said he had no new supply of older proof sets in stock.
Today when I stopped by I discovered that the shop owner had acquired a large number of 50's and 60's proof sets in OGP and in aftermarket holders. Many of the sets in the aftermarket holders are in Capital Holders that are stored in old brown felt stitched together sleeves.
The shop owner let me look through all of the sets. In the sets were some winners. I ended up purchasing, for regular proof set pricing, the following:
A. Three 1955 proof sets in Capital holders containing stunning lock Cameo half dollars and dimes that may possibly warrant a Cameo designation;
B. Five 1956 proof sets in Capital holders containing lock Cameo nickels and Type 1 half dollars that may (after being dipped to remove haze) also warrant a Cameo designation;
C. Two 1957 proof sets, one in OGP and one in a Capital holder that contain cents that may warrant a Cameo designation;
D. One 1958 proof set in a Capital holder that contains a dime that may warrant a Cameo designation;
E. One 1960 proof set in OGP that contains a possible DCAM dime;
F. A raw 1960 half dollar in a flip that is a lock Cameo;
G. One 1963 proof set in a Capital holder containing a lock Cameo quarter;
H. One 1964 proof set in a Capital holder containing a lock Cameo half dollar and a quarter that may warrant a Cameo designation; and
I. One 1967 SMS set containing a lock Cameo nickel.
I have been looking for a raw 1956 Type 1 half dollar that would warrant a Cameo designation for almost 19 years. Have never found one. Today I found 5 of them with two sided frost and nice mirrored fields (hope at least one of them will Cameo).
These sets I believe were acquired from the mint and stayed together through today. Some of the coins mentioned above are consecutive strikes off of fresh dies, aka a "run" of Cameos.
I was definitely in the right place at the right time today.
Nice.
Always enjoy your selections!
These are the days in our hobbies we long for, remember, and talk about for years. Congrats. Look forward to pics.
Not with coins, but once I happened across an obscure thrift store that had just acquired and unloaded the furniture out of a mid-century Eichler house and bought about 7 classic pieces for nothing.
Served me well at auction and still have the "womb" chair to remind me of it.
Congratulations.
I probably would have waited until the coins were in my physical possession before posting here.
Great, keep us posted !!!
It's always cool when stuff like this happens.
Hard work usually pays off (not always.)
Well done and couldn't happen to a nicer guy

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
How fun! It's like Christmas in November. I love the suspense.....
nice!
congrats

More proof that the harder you work, the luckier you get.
Congratulations- It's days like you had that make the hobby that much more exciting. That's the "thrill" found on the chase! Can't wait to see your treasure's!

Hey, where's your Broncos avatar? Your new one certainly fits your collecting interests. We all want to again thank you for your following the 1933 $20 gold fiasco.

@SanctionII.... Great finds... I knew when reading the OP you were looking for cameo's....and it seems you have found a trove of them....It is just this type of experience that coin collectors dream of... well, that and finding buried treasure....
Look forward to pictures and your undoubtedly great scores when sent for slabbing.
Cheers, RickO
You are patient and it pays off, congrats

Kevin, timing is everything. I've been lucky on a few occasions to be able to see a fresh group like this. some old timers back in the 50's got started buying sets five at a time and never ended the subscription. often, they didn't even open anything past just verifying what was inside. I went through some stuff this morning that my boss bought earlier in the week, just to inventory, and there were five set boxes of Proof Sets from the mid-1980's, never opened.
the best I ever found like this was a group of 1960 or 1961 Proof Sets that all had heavily frosted Quarters. I await your pictures!!!
Sounds like a score!

Just picked up the sets.
The fun of looking through them begins.
1957 cent, one of two.

1955 half, one of three.
1956 half, Type 1, one of five. Even after removing the haze, the halves will probably not warrant a Cameo designation due to light

obverse frost.
Different photos of the same 56 half.

1956 nickel, one of five. All five are Cameos, imho.
You got some nice coins there!!
Cool! Should be fun checking for varieties too!
Those '56 nickels are nice!
Nickels are so underrated in CAM + to DCAM .
Maybe "underrated" isn't the right word.
Just damn tough to find.
Sanction, you are just having way toooo much fun. Thanks for sharing with us. Nice that you found them in a B&M and not on eBay.
OINK
Nice! I want that 57 cent!
I wouldn't write off cameo on those 56 T1s.
It’s a good hobby, for a few. For many, it’s a minefield full of snakes and rats.

So I have gone through all of tbe new sets. The cherry talley is:
3 1955 half dollars the would likely CAM,
1 1955 dime that has a Cameo appearance,
5 1956 nickels that are lock Cameos,
5 1956 Type 1 half dollars with frosted reverses,
2 1957 cents with frosted devices, one which is a lock Cameo,
1 1957 quarter with a Cameo appearance,
1 1958 dime that would likely Cameo,
1 1960 dime with a DCAM obverse and frosted reverse,
1 1963 quarter that is a lock Cameo,
1 1964 quarter that would likely Cameo,
1 1964 half dollar that is a lock Cameo, and
1 1967 SMS nickel that is a lock Cameo.
Further I picked up a raw 1960 half dollar that is a lock Cameo.
Pretty nice haul from these sets and the single. I can use extra brilliant examples of these coins to reconstitute the sets. I will then sell them to recoup most of my purchase price.
One of my better hunting trips.
Well done.
