1916 SLQ. Guy actual believes it.

https://miami.craigslist.org/brw/clt/d/sale-price-1916-standing/6382015197.html

Most of the time a post like this is an obvious scammer. Sadly I think this guy is actually just not very bright OR a novice who can't accept he has a fake. I tried to explain this is a fake: and a bad one. He refuses to believe it.

Sad.

Thanks for posting this. It does not look modern in the image and probably worth $10 to a C/F collector.

He refuses to believe it...because perhaps HE paid multiples of thousands of dollars for it to begin with. If so, ~ouch~

I’ll state the obvious. His piece has the wrong reverse. If he doesn’t see that, he doesnt know the first thing about SLQs.

I can't believe the number of obvious counterfeit coins offered on eBay and there always seems to be bidders on them.

Bidders looking for that 'steal' of a lifetime. They only see $$$ being reaped in if they win!

So he's tech savvy enough to use Craigslist, but not Google Image Search. Sounds legit

His Craigslist posting says "MONEY NEEDED FOR MEDICAL EXPENSES"

    https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/comment/11840964#Comment_11840964

"This counterfeit cost me around $4300 in Long Beach about 12 years ago. Now I am trying to get enough to pay my wife’s latest hospital bills. So I guess you should probably do what is important to you. Turn in an old army veteran and make sure I have nothing to help my wife."

Seems the medical bills story is the way to go for the scammers these days.

It has been pulled.... so whether a scam or just ignorance, it is gone. Cheers, RickO
