~ Copper 4 The Weekend™ ~

1840 Bergen Iron Works, Lakewood, New Jersey, HT-206 / Low-143, Copper, 21mm Diameter, Rarity-4.
All are seen weakly struck on the high points due to inept dies which had high relief designs at the exact points on both obverse & reverse too great for a thin planchet. Typically seen die crack on the obverse and most even in UNC are less eye appealing then stuff found stuck to your shoe in a dog park. This example ended about a 7 year search as it had everything I didn't expect to ever find lustrous trace red surfaces and a strike which shows shaking hands instead of what always seemed to be a wagon wheel axle.

I love copper, thanks BS!
Nice Bergen Iron Works token, Frank!

I live about 15 minutes from Lakewood. I wonder what now stands on the old site?
Here is a copper to commemorate our recent gubernatorial election here in NJ:

Some nice copper.... @Broadstruck... that is a nice specimen... the few I have seen were definitely inferior due to wear on the reverse....Cheers, RickO

1838 Columbian Manuel Marpla of Cartagena token, struck over an 1837 Hard Times token. Scarce.
Rulau (Latin American Tokens) Bol-17. Very Fine. Struck over a Low-33 type "Not One Cent" piece. Nice chocolate brown, plenty smooth on the reverse, where the obverse of the Hard Times token is nicely visible, with even the 1837 date seen with scrutiny, The obverse of the Colombian token, with a ship reminiscent of those on various Hard Times varieties, is also attractive, despite some very minor peripheral scale and some thinner patina in areas. Just a hint of undertype of the reverse of the Hard Times Token is visible on that side. This token, along with several other Colombian varieties described by Rulau, is occasionally found on a Hard Times Token undertype, and undoubtedly both undertype and overstrike were struck on the same presses at Scovill & Co. I just love the design on this one and the splash of color makes it neat. Getting these out to photograph makes me want to look and hunt for more! The weekend thread is stoking my interest anew.
That's a cool overstrike. Good to know this is a Scovill piece too.
I like your half cent, STman. Here's mine:
Enjoy your weekend...Mike
