Very Good Trade and Grade in Philadelphia

On Thursday there was very good attendance.
PCGS was decent on the grading and I would like to see more Trade and graded on the East Coast
Perhaps the next one in Boston ?

I was there and it was great. I hope that PCGS does more in the East Coast - say at least once a year. There are enough dealers and collectors in attendance to support such a show. Also, I heard that PCGS graded a record number of submissions during the show.

Interesting... what are the details on this.... They do grading... are dealers set up? Or just transactions between collectors? Cheers, RickO

On site grading , dealers set up, social atmosphere and a terrific auction. I enjoyed myself. Had a great dinner with collector friends and dealers and chatted up several board members. This is my favorite kind of show.

I think for dealers it's a 100 coin minimum submission. Not sure about collectors.

I'm in the first pic, where's Ronyahski?

Great auction, they set bidder records with this one. Picked up a couple of coins while there. Not real happy with submission results. Appears they blitz through grading coins as much as any other show.

Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

I've attended three PCGS shows in Las Vegas, one in New Orleans, and this one in Philadelphia. This was the best attended by far, with more collectors and dealers than I've seen at any of the previous shows. Tells me that Philadelphia and /or the East Coast was a popular choice for PCGS.

I picked up about 15 coins for inventory, three Lots from the Legend Auction and the balance from dealers on the bourse. What a nice atmosphere to buy and sell coins, and PCGS does a great job with the breakfast and lunch buffets, and ice cream in the afternoon!

Very enjoyable and productive three days! Thanks PCGS.

    Chris,

In my opinion, PCGS should not call this a show, as it has confused people expecting a larger event. It is my understanding that this is an off-site grading event, not a "show"; there are 25 or so dealers that sit around and wait for their coins to get graded and most don't have coins out in cases to sell. They only get 2 cases, so most don't bother putting anything out. They may have a box or two in the back to show people. The FUN "show" is an actual show where the dealers are expected to put out all of their inventory for sale. The January FUN show is great; it's bigger and better than the July event, so if you can only pick one, choose January.

This is no longer the case. There are probably more deals to be made here then at a lot of shows. Yes, since there are only 25 dealers and only one or two cases per dealer most bring only their A coins or coins they may want to wholesale since they can't bring everything. If one is going to be looking to fill holes this probably isn't the show for them.

I saw more great coins this Thursday for two hours from dealers and collectors then I do most full days at the largest shows.

Yes if Chris is going to make one East show it should be a January FUN.

It was a great show and venue! I was there for just a bit late Wednesday to scope it out and many of the dealers and collectors were very pleased with finally getting an east coast PCGS member show (instead of always Vegas). I just missed the crowd that day, but did spend part of Thursday going thru coins and chatting with various folks, along with posting a couple of Instagram videos of toned Morgans from the Legend auction. I won nothing from that, but did pick up some nice type coins for my sets. My wife and daughter were with me off and on and we all really enjoyed the food spreads!

I'll post those coins in another thread when I get a chance.

That's the one I would go to if I can afford it come January. The VAM guys all gather for "VAM Thing" and give out awards and talk VAMs and have SSDC meetings etc. A lot of us meet at the summer ANA shows but it's nothing like winter FUN from what I understand. The show being such a great one would just be a bonus.

FUN is one of the few really big and great shows left. The ANA Show has become worthless and dismal-for seeking coins

While higher-value and higher-end coins are less immediately available within arm's reach at larger shows, the ANA Summer Show, while floundering lately, still has lots more trading opportunities for a higher percentage of collectors. :) On the other hand, their Orlando Mid-Winter show this year was abysmal, especially when considering what FUN can deliver , :s

I attended the PCGS Members Only Show in Dallas last year, I was definitely surprised by the small room size, especially in comparison to the ANA show earlier last year in Dallas. Although I did get to chat with @MarkStephenson for a spell. It was an intimate setting.

Glad the show was successful. I hope PCGS/other TPGS, the ANA and other coin shows smarten up and stop ignoring New England. There is a large collector base that is neglected by the coin show circuit....all while attendance is down at the "usual" venues.

Gotta say the synergy of PCGS grading and Legend Auctions has worked out brilliantly. Kudos to Julie, Gregg, George, Jose and the rest of the gang. :#;)

Lends itself to reinventing the traditional "coin show" Would folks from the boards pay $50 to attend a collector night dinner which featured a small bourse (5-10 selected dealers), a nice dinner, and perhaps a guest speaker? Perhaps on a Thursday night.... limited number of tickets sold?

That's an out-of-the-park idea for a PCGS/Legend venue. Both companies are very facile in their ability to organize events like this. :D

+1 on Boston though I could see cost being a deterrent for some. I do hope they continue to have one in NOLA.

If they do Boston I’ll fly across the country to be there. I’m in the Rocky Mountains now, but we spent a few great years in Vermont & Massachusetts. Fabulous city to visit.
