1907 Barber Quarter RPD - New?

StrikeOutXXXStrikeOutXXX Posts: 3,352 ✭✭✭✭✭

Found this last night at Coin Club. Didn't match the one in the CPG. Few folks I asked about it hasn't seen it before, but I'm sure someone has? - not a huge RPD, but neat none the less.

Could you zoom in on the "1" anymore? >:)

Looks triple punched to me, but...I could not find anything either; PCGS/NGC/CONECA

Yea, it does. I'll have to get better pics of the other digits later, did those real quick last night before bed.

Sadly, that's all my little $20 innolife USB microscope will do 8-)

I couldn't find anything either. Looked on the sites you mentioned and Wexler's and the BCCS site, it wasn't in their variety census project page - but I'm not a member, not sure if they have a secret listing of the more minor things somewhere, but the few folks I asked about it didn't find anything either or remember seeing it. Someone here who specializes in these will likely remember seeing it.

The only reference to a RPD I found was on NGC's site where it says:
**_This is a very common issue across all grades. Mint State survivors are plentiful, with a fair number of gems included.

The size of the date was reduced this year, and it would remain smaller than previously through the end of the series. The only variety for 1907(P) is a repunched date that is of some interest to collectors._**

So I posted it in a Facebook Variety Group asking if this by chance is the one RPD NGC references. My CPG Volume 2 is the 4th edition (Was holding off to upgrade til the next one with the 1919 DDO in it) - the 4th ed has nothing, someone with the 5th edition said there is one listed, but it doesn't match.

I have seen this RPD once before on another coin I had in inventory at one time when I happened to be looking. Very nice photographs and I look forward to additional ones if you have the chance. There are numerous RPD's in all Barber series not well known nor published. One of the least researched series for these sorts of varieties in all US coin series. The BCCS has been getting the word out on new ones probably more consistently in the past few years then any other group. By the time of the Barbers, the mint was using 4-digit date punches so nearly all the digits should show some re-punching typically. Nice find thanks for sharing.

Super zoom only gets 1/2 the digit, regular zoom, not really close enough to see details, but...

So is there anyone who catalogs these things that would want to see it?

Didn't see a section on Wexler or CONECAs site for stuff like this.
