Definitely some circulation. I thought 55 when I fist opened the thread. The coin is better struck than a lot of the mid-1920 specimens coming out of Denver, though.

Hate to be a repeater.. But I see it as an AU-55 as well. The obverse looks like it could be closer to 58, so my guess is that NGC weighted the obverse quite a bit more and gave it a 58.
I've not been a fan of the NGC coins of this era, they seem to be overgraded by a grade or more. It's been very few and far between that I've found myself buying a coin in these particular holders. I hope you got a good deal on this coin.

yea, ngc is weak grading mercs. I've had this coin for >10 year, so no big deal, & they gave it a double 5.

It's a nice looking Merc. and it sounds and looks like they at least got the grade right.

AU 55 I see no luster and wear on the high points. Not a very good photo
to judge the grade.

The D appears to be over something, another mintmark?
can't tell using a loupe on the coin, nor enlarging the top image.
55 in my opinion. Being in the old slab there is a good chance its 58.

Poor images, better not be a 58.
IMO, 53 amount of wear yet clean so AU-55.
