Completed my Merc circulated grading set this week.

One of my favorite series combined with the thrill of the plastic, coins from the dismantled PCGS grading set. On the lookout for coins in grading set holders graded 1, 2 or 3 but not sure they exist.
Gone but not forgotten: IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose, Cardinal.

This is the only generation - note the G-numbers - these are from the official PCGS grading set that the graders used before the digital version was developed.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Neat set. I like looking at the consecutive serial number/cert number. I wonder why the gap between 20/25, 30/35 & 55/58? Are you missing a 20+, 30+ and a 55+ from your set?

Interesting if you look at the current coins on line, the 1st 4 are 1916-D. I'm assuming those were retained by PCGS and sold.

I remember seeing a Morgan dollar grading set.
The only problem is that a proper grading set will consist of the same date and mint of the entire set.
Different dates and mint have very different strikings.
Neat.....I have never seen slabs with those G numbers on them.
If you cracked them out and resubmitted, what would the grades be then?

So did they dismantle all of the grading sets or create new sets?
I saw this coin from the grading listed in August 2017 at HA.
I thought I owned it's twin or maybe more like it's cousin
Mine graded MS64PL in March of 2017.
Not sure what AFA 71 is but don't think it's related to a grading set. Nice coin!
Actually I did a little more looking and found a series of cert numbers with AFA 71 in a registry set with that name, so you are correct it's not part of the grading set. I just remembered the funny pedigree and thought grading set.
My recollection is that 20+ and 30+ are not part of the PCGS grading scale.
Definitely missing a 53+ too. Is 45+ a point on the continuum?

If it doesn't exist, it can't be missing. These were used pre-+ grading.
The online version doesn't have + grades either.
I know they didn't have + marks back then. But the main question was why then left a gap in the numbers. A continuous consecutive set would have been real cool.
I just played with the cert verifications and found they did not make the full sets with consecutive numbers per set. G1620 is also AU58 and probably went to a different set. I found it interesting that many of your certs are not in the verification database.
Either way, A cool set. Must have taken a lot of patience and searching.
I do not think there was a gap in the numbers of the grading set. There were multiple examples of each grade in the PCGS Grading Set. So w/ the set shown here of one of each grade it would appear to have gaps, but that was not the case.
I find it interesting that the G06 coin shown has a number later than the VG08 coin. That is a bit odd. Perhaps that G06 coin started its life as a VG08 in the grading set and was later downgraded to G06 as the set evolved???

Looks like the serial numbers are consecutive within the grade.
Looked through some dupes today. For example, the VG10 is 1366 above, I also have 1365 and 1367 in VG10.
