Found in rolls of wheaties....real or not? Pretty significant clip////
Can you explain markers for making determination?

I believe this is a fake. I do need better photos to be sure. The blob at 2:00 on the reverse look off to me.
I do not see the Blakesley Effect on this cent...Although it is possible that it might not be there, it is almost always an indicator of a true clipped planchet. Cheers, RickO
Not all clips have the Blakesley Effect. I look for metal flow. I do not see any metal flow in the op coin.
I think PMD.
Possibly a retained clip that broke away after the strike? I like the way the inner edge of the rim by the second T of TRUST fades outwards.
I'm thinking PMD also. The "clip" looks wrong.
Does a coin like this have a enough value to send in to our hosts?
This is a tough one. I would lean towards post-strike damage (PSD) due to the following:
The one thing that I do like about it is that the edge does not show obvious grinding marks. Their presence would have been a good indicator that it wasn't a curved clip (but would not have excluded it from being pre-strike damage).
This would not be worth grading (if profit is your goal). Even if you had a real clip on a 1948 MS64 wheat, it would not be worth it. Clips are low value errors in most cases, and they are common on wheats.
Value is "well under $10", sorry
I'm on the fence about whether it's legit. I see what the Capt. mentions, but really not much else. On the other hand I don't see a smoking gun that says it isn't legit. My vote is that you should enjoy it indent worry too much.
Maybe, maybe not. Could be lighting or dirt.
A good close up photo of that area will tell us for sure one way or another.
My gut told me the same thing.......

what about vertical striation remnants in the crescent?
Ya those also led me to believe it's fake.
