Near Tufts.
I think I will try to get there next week if work permits
As of a about 1 year ago there was a Bob's on Main street in Medford. I've never gone in, but my wife has and she said they made a good Italian sub.
School taxes in Ga. are not applied evenly. Much are paid by property owners. I would wager most Ga. property owners pay enough school tax in their lifetime to send a platoon of kids to school. So you like being taxed into the grave? Only a California liberal could make a statement like that!
many years ago a forum member who's ID escapes me created a "Location Map" thread of all forum members. if you gave him your City or zipcode he'd enter it onto the map and a red dot would mark the location. some areas, such as larger cities were one big, red blob, other places looked really scattered. I think you could hover your mouse pointer on a dot to see the forum member.
does anyone have access to that?? I think the member may have been Lanlord.

What a great idea for seniors/fixed income situations! Made me look it up for CA, and it too does not tax SS income. We've got to get a petition going for the retirement exclusion.....

All GA counties don't work that way but when your county officials are fiscal conservatives and don't through money to the wind they don't need the tax money from those of us whose children have been out of school for over thirty years.

I live (San Diego) about 2 and half hours from good desert placer gold
I was in Northern Cali this summer at a placer gold mine for a week. Just awesome!
Lots of it around the state so pick your spot.
As a midwesterner, our geology and the effects of the glaciers don't offer much in the way of placer gold. I would have to drive a couple of hundred miles to get to the first places that offer even tiny amounts.
But in CA, don't you mostly gave to "pay to pan"? Or belong to the GPAA or some club? It's difficult to believe that most of the realistically good spots aren't already claimed?

I do belong to the SPMA club (grandfathered in to the GPAA Claims) for $35 year which gives me access to many more claims then I have time to visit. I go to the best producing claim they have. I do want to prospect on a few others as well.
Up north, we paid for a cabin on an active gold mine which also allowed us to prospect anywhere on their property. Extremely cool experience.
Most of the good spots are claimed but the clubs have many of them and the cost is small to have access to you own (group) claim.

Sorry for your loss. I hope he recovers quickly and insurance allows him to quickly rebuild. I hope no one was hurt.
How'd y'all do down there? Know y'all got hit with flooding, probably worse than we did.
@cameonut2011 - nobody hurt, thank God, but that tree torpedo that went through my father's bedroom wall shattered the bookcase next to his nightstand, only three or four feet from where he was sleeping! 'Twas a close shave indeed.

Thanks for the geography lesson. I always thought northern Maine stuck upwards just a teeny bit more. Did not know that about WA. I have never been to the Pacific NW, but judging from photos and some stuff I've read, it seems like my kinda place. I'd love to see it someday. I like misty, woodsy kinda places* where it's cooler, even if the sun shines less. Despite having been born and raised in Florida, I'm not a sun worshiper.
