Unless this show has drastically changed in the last 18 months, there is mostly dreck at this show. Flea-marketish. Darrell (amwldcoin) and one other dealer usually have good stuff. But if you're looking for something to do, it's better than nothing.
My current coin collecting interests are: (1) British coins 1838-1970 in XF-AU-UNC, (2) silver type coins in XF-AU with that classic medium gray coloration and exceptional eye appeal.
Unfortunately it hasn't. Bullion or flea market buyers...take your choice! There is occasionally a diamond here or there if you can find it though! Very few serious collectors come these days...so the local locals do have a bargain now or then!

If I thought my house/ business/ workplace might be seriously damaged by a natural disaster, I might wait a bit before making any non-essential expenditures.
Bug out couple hundred miles North/ Northwest get a hotel room or spot in a campground, get some ice and beer and lunch meat and bread. Chips, don't forget the chips. If your luck is good, you will be someplace with "good" cable TV. Go mindless for a couple of days until you know the damages.
Good cable TV is a kinda oxymoron, but it is a great help when you wish to go mindless.
Personally I like the show and usually go 8 or 9 times a year. Might not be a lot of top pop CACed coins for sale but who cares, everyone is friendly and appear as though they are happy to see you. And every once in a while..........
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Surprised at some of the comments. I for one would love to have something to do rather than sit in a hotel room waiting to be able to go home.
I absolutely am concerned about all those being affected by the storm. Turns out we might get some crap Monday and Tuesday.
Nothing like the pessimists picking apart what I thought was a nice suggestion as any who maybe in that situation would probably not know there was a show.
No worries, Darrell - I am one of the folks in FL who didn't evacuate, etc. - but if I had and was going up that way, I would appreciate any offers of 'things to do while in the area'.
A number of my friends and co-workers who were evacuating to various places were for the most part turning these into mini vacations, and I'm getting texts and posts of the fun and food they are having while in the various far flung locales. These are upper middle class folks with secured homes, good insurance, and plenty of $ - and there are a lot of them in FL.
My thoughts and prayers are to those much less fortunate, where evacuation means you go to your local school gym for three days, if there is even room for you.
Well, it is a nice distraction from what is a major disaster - when you have to leave home to survive, a little stability and camaraderie would help. Despite the somewhat negative description of the show, I would be overjoyed to have even that type of coin show available in my area... never any coin shows here. Best of luck to all those who have had to leave their homes or are staying to ride it out. Cheers, RickO
Just a suggestion: Collectors should not dismiss small shows and ones of mixed content. While the odds of finding exceptionally nice coins are low, the sellers are often locals who get first pick of the Estates of nearby collectors. Many very nice raw - aka real - coins might be available at good values for those who know how to evaluate and grade coins. (Many years ago, I found a run of bust halves in solid AU condition - trace of wear or luster disruption - for half the cost from a large dealer. The coins were later used in a very advantageous trade.)
Obviously as noted here some people handle or related to stress differently. Me, Myself, and I look for any distraction from a stressful situation as long as it doesn't make the situation worse!

The suggestion is not terrible. It's just that right now the stress level for anyone affected, including those on the road, is right through the roof. The area where I live is expecting a direct hit, and aside from putting all of my SDB coins in Ziploc bags I'm afraid that coins are going to be the last thing on my mind. (Of course I am here reading posts - I need to do something that seems normal or I am going to go out of my mind....)

Yeah, I'd rather be doing something. If I evacuated, I'd be watching the coverage to see if they show my house under 10' of water...

Irma may still be a tropical storm with 70+MPH sustained winds when it gets to Atlanta. (Got friends there too, who are housing some refugee-relatives from Florida...) It's even supposed to close Hartsfield-Jackson for a while.

Well, it's either that or go to the Varsity for a hot dog and then go see the Coca-Cola museum...
I don't care how you spin this, it was poor form to offer a coin show to those who don't know if they will have a home or business to go home to. Let's all just move on.

Offer out of state attendees a meal, bottles of water and some free stuff for the kids and the deal would have been a winner.

Garish promotion.
Can I say FU Here?

Fuddernutter should be ok.

Reminds me of the guy selling cases of water for $40 each
The worst thread of all time. Try to think of others.

It never costs to go searching. It seems to cost much more complaining.

I love small coin shows that are not well attended. I have made some good finds there...
