Submission Center / My Orders request

It would be nice to have text message or mobile app notification when an order status changes -- received, checked-in, grades posted, shipped, ready for show pickup, whatever else.

I agree, John. Shoot, if the post office can do it anyone can. How hard can it be?

I have no doubt PCGS scans orders as they move through the grading process. It helps them deal with customer inquiries, track down coin submissions for internal purposes, etc. Why not share it?

At the very least it should be available on the "orders" page (if not through text alerts).

I don't get it...what's the downside to doing this? Is PCGS afraid of flare-ups from customers, when coins don't move along quickly enough? I'm sure they get them today, regardless.

    Show us progress!

I'm not a software developer, so I don't know the answer but I wonder what the cost of doing this would be?
Cost as in getting the code to be worked into existing software and then testing to make sure nothing is broken or causes any other problems.

It's not a bad idea, but unless and until they are doing a software overhaul on that part of their business software, it may not be something to put into place too soon.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

They have a team of software developers working on such things as the mobile and web-based apps. They also have internal IT. If they do it right, they'll figure out exactly what to do to support this, figure out how much development effort it would take, and then figure out what software release cycle it could fit into. It may already be under consideration, for all I know. A notification of coins being ready for show pickup would be a godsend to dealers who are spending show time running across the floor to see if coins are ready, as well as the customer service people who have to tell them they aren't.

This would be nice. It would also be nice to be able to use a credit card at shows and coin shops. If memory serves, credit cards have been out for a few years now.

It makes sense as our society moves further along the 'constantly plugged in' path of mobile computing and communication. That would certainly be a logical progression in their business model. I am also convinced that there is a project, in some TPG 'skunkworks' laboratory or backroom, that is working on the massive, but eventually unavoidable, computer grading program. Predictions are not my forte'..however, it makes sense that we will see this at some point. Cheers, RickO

I have text messages sent to my phone everytime my credit card is charged for my own protection. I pay for my submissions with a credit card, so the grades are posted when they charge your card so in a way it is a notification...

Nearly all major credit card companies offer this service free of charge.

I receive email notices when the coins are received at our host and when they leave....everything else in between is "processing". This should be easy to do, especially since our orders have bar codes on them.

No doubt they can do it but at what cost? collectors.com cost $2M. They are dangerously low on cash and are building a new state of the art building which, I am sure, will burn more cash. They need to get their financial house in order before taking on any new work. FYI - their stock is off 25% from the high earlier this year.

PCGS is already doing it. The question is whether they want to share the information.

Sure there'll be some cost. But I would be surprised if it approached what has been spent on some of their recent mobile apps.

Will you quit using PCGS or switch to other TPGs if they don't do this?
Will you submit to PCGS more if they had this service?

You could ask that about any number of technological freebies they have rolled out, not the least of which is this message board.
