Anyone see a proof state quarter with wild toning like this? Updated with new pics and end result.

I have never seen one like this before. I know it can't be totally unique but it can't be very common either.

Everyone's comments about if they like it or don't like it is appreciated. As far as edynamicmarketing is concerned I have not seen anything like this from them and I will lay it on the line that it did not at any point come from him. And yes it is of my opinion that their stuff hurts the marketplace and something needs to be done about it. I was not really expecting to get everyone into the AT or NT debate but it was nice to hear the comments even though a couple were a little harsh. It just confirms some of my feelings, and if you want honesty this can be the place to come get it. I sent it in to PCGS to see what they would say about it. Either way our host has deemed it as being NT and that is what I am going with especially considering I thought it had a decent chance of being NT. The quarter is a silver proof and not a clad which I think might have had a little bearing on the NT decision. As stated before pics are limited to what the camera sees, and I don't juice my pics so I took a couple more shots, however this time through the slab that it is now entombed in. Thanks everyone for the opinions. New pics below.

Nope, I have not seen him with anything like this. It was actually purchased from a local vest pocket dealer that i know.

If I had acquired that coin in 2005 and it was blast white, and only me, myself, and I had access to it for the last twelve years while it was in the process of toning, then I would love it. Cherish and adore it. Otherwise, no thanks. Get my drift?

Yes I have seen a few like that...all very similar in their color patterns/progression.
Regardless of whether a modern coin such as that were slabbed or raw, I would consider the source of the color suspect.

A couple months ago when I made the purchase I considered it to be possibly AT. That being said, I liked the look anyway and it's not like i paid moon money for it. Obviously pics only show so much and pics in my original post are the glam shot. I will note that the pics look a little darker on my phone than what they show on my laptop. I will try to post a couple more pics later this evening.

I've gotta say that the coin your showing is most certainly AT and I find it just as ugly as can be. I do believe this guy endynamicmarking has destroyed more coins than granny goose has potato chips. Should be a crime cause he is VERY serious about ripping folks off and destroying many coins.

AT or not, there's a lot of coins with toning just like that in holders, including our host. I guess the grading gods sometimes see that as NT.

I have a set with the Proof 1981-S cent toned like this. If the set is ever opened and the coin removed we all should call it AT!

PS Whether AT or NT, how anyone can call that coin "ugly" is beyond my comprehension!

I'd like to see the coin in hand, but the color on the rim really intrigues me. First glance is AT, but the subtle color on the rim does NOT look AT.

I actually like it's appearance quite a bit but to each their own. I think it could be NT. As far as our friends at edynamic I'm sure they've been reported to ebay many times but those fine folks continue to do nothing.

Some of the same colors on this one. Not the concentric toning though.

This guy told me he was "heat toning" the coins he was selling on ebay.

Three different dates. Same color pattern?????? Forum member selling these on the bay.

The line between AT/NT has become so blurred with PCGS holdering these type of coins, that I'm not confident
that I can tell the difference anymore. For that reason, I seldom buy a toned coin anymore and have divested myself
of most of what I once had.

And one thing is for sure, on this coin the toning is perfectly symmetrical so the entire coin was affected at the same rate by whatever type of holder that surrounded it originally.

Those quarters look like some of the chrome on my hot rod's headers.

The toning is very AT (enhanced) to me. But the question remains, who would want to collect the whole series looking like this.

Without seeing it inhand, but having seen some silver Ikes that toned similar, just not as brilliantly, and with the haze as well, I would give it a chance to be NT and something that occurred because of the packaging and the environment.

The other quarters posted.....yeah...no way would I give those a MA pass based on the photos at least (inhand, maybe different thoughts, but probably not, for me...looks heat induced)
