The right way to do a "Box of 18"!

MrEurekaMrEureka Posts: 24,689 ✭✭✭✭✭

The trays were custom made by Abafil. The box is an off the shelf archival clamshell storage box that perfectly fits 2 trays.

I have a bunch of these 9 slab boards. Bought them years ago. They have a clear plastic cover as well. You should be able to find them at the larger shows.

There are some 9 slab trays in the market but none that I liked. The Abafil trays are infinitely better.

    Nice storage box, Andy.

What made you go with a custom build vs Lighthouse Volterra boxes that look pretty similar?

Do the slabs have to be put in upside down?

The idea was to have a safe deposit box friendly presentation. Pulling coins out of slab boxes one at a time just doesn't cut it for me. So in going for the right experience, I wanted a better quality product. When you see and feel them in hand, the difference is obvious.

From my experience the slabs are very hard to remove from those boards. I had to use a pen to pry them out. Not a big fan.

I got a cool one coin box from AU Capital Management with a coin I ordered.
It takes prying to get the slab out.
For handiness, I don't think one can beat the dang boxes and slipping coins out. :)

David Lawrence once sent a coin in a very nice lift-top cardboard box, but they said they didn't know how inert it would be. But it...was... thin enough to stack some.

    But....still the boxes.....

I do like those trays, I have the Lighthouse version which house eight coins per tray.

What are the dimensions on these Abafil trays?

I like that idea, Andy. The blue boxes work good for me, but this is a viable alternative to holding some inventory, or maybe a few of the coins that may sit for a longer period.(as to the tight fit). They appear to take less space.

...and not a bean in sight.

How would I go about ordering some of these trays for myself? I didn't see anything like this on the Abafil website (perhaps obviously, being a custom product).

Not a problem with the Abafil trays.

You'll lose about 40% of your storage space using these instead of PCGS boxes. For me, that's a good trade-off, at least for my collection. My inventory can stay in the PCGS boxes.

    They're about 8 3/4 x 11. They fit nicely into storage boxes designed for 8 1/2 x 11 documents and photos.
