Think that I may slow down my Ebay shipping times.

In the early days of Ebay, it was not unusual to see a seller note that he goes to the post office Tuesdays and Fridays only.

The carrot and stick of the top rated seller discount changed all of that so the sellers now for the most get their coins shipped post haste.

The 20% incentive for jumping through hoops has dropped to 10%. Maybe I don't really need to get to the bank SDB two or three times a week to pull inventory. Maybe less often is satisfactory.

What do you folks think?

well top rated sellers get better shipping label prices. Matters more to me because I ship heavy items and overseas labels.

How difficult is it? The Postman comes to my door 6 days a week. My inventory is not at the bank if it's online for sale. It's not hard to figure out what auction is ending and have the item prepacked and ready to go.
The problem you seem to have is that your auctions are not auctions so you don't know when they will sell, if at all. I don't do that BIN game.....(at least not very often)

Switched to mostly buy-it-now's to take advantage of the Ebay bucks promos. Did auctions only for about a decade until they became too hit or miss.

I don't think there is an advantage. If it is it is not worth sweating unless you do a large number of shipments.

I've bought priority international labels for $50 that would sell for $90 over the counter . That one label savings was more than the 20% fee discount saved me for the whole month.

You could always select the "Seller will ship in 10 days or less option" giving you time if needed, that way if you manage to ship in under 3 days you will appear to be a miracle worker in the eyes of the customer ;)

Scotty: Do you mind a little advice? eBay Customers are like children. They want everything right now and they want it their way. But the secret is to give them only what they need, not what they want.
Geordi La Forge: Yeah, well, I told the eBay Customer I'd have this shipped in an hour.
Scotty: How long will it really take?
    Geordi La Forge: An hour!
Scotty: Oh, you didn't tell him how long it would really take, did ya?
Geordi La Forge: Well, of course I did.
Scotty: Oh, laddie. You've got a lot to learn if you want people to think of you as a miracle worker.

Works for you then. My stuff goes first class at $2.61 or Priority at about $6.50. Occasional registered which does not go though Ebay shipping.

I ship normally about 5+ a day, 17 today, but it was an outlier. I have them boxed and ready by lunch.

Everything on ebay is somewhere at the house, so I box it up, stop at post office, stop at FedEx, go have lunch.

    Lather Rinse Repeat tomorrow.

Way better than a disagree. ;)

I figure that the reduced discount was blunder by Ebay. Unlike Amazon that controls most of their own inventory and distribution, Ebay has only us schmuck independent sellers. Amazon moves most everything in a day or two and reaps the rewards. Ebay will likely cause a slowdown by their greed.

Are you sure this is the case now??? I have 2 ebay accounts...1 top rated store and the other not. I see the same rates for both and if I ship through paypal!

I slipped out of top rated for 6 months because my transactions dropped below 100. At first I decided not to bother jumping through the hoops but I backed into top rated again and saw it on my overseas labels.

I sell truck parts which sometimes can be large and light or large and heavy . I didn't notice any savings in first class or the various priority flat rate boxes , but when shipping by weight and size it was there. Overseas priority rates where the flat rate boxes won't work were much better than non top rated.

Its hit or miss though , when you set up for a label it will show you the % you are saving. Depending on options you try that % can be all over the place.

Only a couple of years ago one could print a USPS Express mail label through Ebay for $12. It popped to $18.00 in a single bound.

With the ever increasing fees and anti-seller policies, eBay is hardly worth bothering with anymore except for low end stuff that is difficult to move anywhere else.

Your $3 error cents are easy to ship. Just stick a forever stamp on one side and etch the address on the reverse.

Your addition to the thread was worthless. Not jumping through Ebay hoops for a now meager discount is certainly worthy of discussion here. If you don't want to intelligently contribute than stay in the corner.

Your addition was intended as an insult ....

I yawned because your relentless ebay bashing has become such a boar.

If you can't make money on ebay then that is your problem. I find it extremely easy make money and build a business and always have. Your intended insult about $3 errors is so far off the mark that I guess you have not LOOKED at my recent ebay offerings.

Don't like the subject than move along.

Ebay is still profitable but when the shylocks continue to eat ever larger chunks of the profit pie, wise sellers voice their concerns.

I was not happy when they dropped the top seller discount to 10% from 20%. But to me it is still worth it to ship next day because the 10% back helps cover the eBay store fee. But I do mainly auctions. My pet peeve is when buyers pay over several days- that means multiple trips to the mailbox to deliver sales from the same night. Now if everybody paid the same day I would be a happy camper- but i don't see that happening. Plus as mentioned buyer's are happier and leave better feedback when they get their coins fast.

    Always trying to learn more
