Geez. Today a peso now is worth 5.5 cents to the dollar. Back in the day, 1968, a peso was worth 8.5 cents a dollar, i guess a 60 peso struck on $10 gold equals sixty cents to the dollar back in 1916, so, it sounds about right.

I showed this Mexico 60 Pesos struck on a U.S. $10 to Mark Salzberg of NGC, at my table at the Denver ANA. He examined it and said that it's a very cool piece. He then noted that he had purchased the finest known Mexico 60 Pesos out of Eliasberg in 2003 and that it's in his personal coin collection...

Coinworld refers to it as an error. Not an error. Intentionally done.

@derryb.... Interesting point and certainly valid. Quite a bit of difference between a real 60 peso coin and this one.... Cheers, RickO
Is that why it doesn't say "MINT ERROR" on the slab label...?
And if it isn't technically an error, why is it on the cover of Mint Error News Magazine?

I would call it an overstrike rather than an error. Fascinating coin, for sure.

Might be inclined to consider it an error if it were struck over a 1916 $10 Indian. But, a $10 Liberty that sat around for at least 9 years?
Doesn't excite me much.
Best considered a "mint sport", but still very cool!
