Possible off metal 44 wheat Penny

Just curious on some opinions here. Not steel. Does not stick to a magnet however weighs closer to that of a steel wheat penny.

1944s were so-called "shell casing" cents - made from brass presumably. In regard to color, I don't see anything particularly unusual.

3.1 grams is the normal. A 4% tolerance is in the range of what is normal.

It weighs 2.86 grams. The color just struck me as odd as I've been through tens of thousands of wheat pennies and Never found something in this tone. The picture doesn't really do it justice. I'm certain it's not pewter I definitely wouldn't describe it as being cleaned if anything I would say something along the lines of an off cooler patina maybe I'm really not sure. I'm stumped lol

Idk maybe I'm just imagining things on the color haha. Weight is definitely off. Also neat error on the t and e in United. I've never seen before

The distortion on the TE in United is PMD....much like the rim hit... The weight loss is likely due to wear.... Cheers, RickO

What Rick just said...circulation wear reduces the weight.
