I just recently had graded a1976-s Clad Proof DDR that I was hoping to get an FS-801 and instead it came back as Minor Variety DDR. As usual these varieties confuse me but I do not even see a Coneca DDR listed that is not the FS-801. Can anybody help on this or did they just mislabel it? It's a 68DC also but looks 69DC.

Believe it or not PCGSs variety attribution is often sub-par. Your best bet is to send it to James Wiles for attribution. But even if he agrees with you that it is FS801, you generally will still have to pay PCGS again to get a misattribution corrected.

If I am not positive, I send to Wiles first. You might also get credit for a discovery coin !!
The problem with DCAM varieties, is many are hard to see because of the frost.

A picture might get you some inputs as well.... unless you have already shipped it off.... Cheers, RickO

Thanks for all of the responses. It looks like I need to get some better books to study varieties. Tim Clough just sent me some photos that I did not have. It looks like it's an fs-801 and like davewesen said above it is harder to tell due to the diffuse nature of a frosty double die.

I have been looking for this one for along time!

    Nope!

First of all, PCGS does not put "discovery coin" on any slabs. ANACS does though.

BUT, ANACS will only do so if the coin is first examined by Wiles or Wexler. I am certain of this because I just went through all this regarding a newly discovered Franklin RPM.

I was referring to coneca/varietyvista - first reported by

I realize PCGS will 'rarely' put discovery coin on a slab - but they also did not put FS-801 that datentype felt he had
