My new Baby Half Dime..........

DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have been wanting to add to my Complete Bust with Major Varieties for a long time and the 1837 Small 5c is the hardest of the Half Dimes so I wanted to get a good start on the Half Dimes. I pick XF45 for the Half Dimes because I like the looks of them in this grade and they are not too expensive at this level. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. :)

One of my favorite series. Years ago I collected half dimes and I totally agree XF is a great grade, even nice VF's. I had mine raw in a Library of Coins album and enjoyed that collection as much as any I ever worked on. I learned early on to check for a bent coin as these smaller coins tended to be a natural screwdriver when one back in the day didn't have the proper tool, so always something to check for.
It's a series I might take up some day again. Good luck with your endeavor!

Yes, that is the hardest of the Capped Bust. I've been looking and waiting for one for quite some time. Nice example you have!

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I had an 1829 H10c grade MS62, unfortunately did not pay for the attribution which would have come out as a much better variety. Too bad there isn't a box you can check to have them do the non-automatic attributions if they will add real value, but that would probably overburden the graders.

Very nice specimen Jon.... Is this the beginning of a new direction? Or just a parallel project? Cheers, RickO

    Afford states:

"But not the hardest of the capped bust series, I don't know where ms70 came up with that."

True, the 1837 LM-4/V2 Small 5Ȼ is not the 'hardest' of the Capped Bust half dimes, but you may be thinking of the 92 die marriages, while I think the OP and MS70 may be referring to the Red Book Varieties. Among the Red Book varieties, I have no doubt it is the most difficult to locate, particularly in the OP's criteria of XF45 or better. Nice coin, and a definite keeper.

Yes, I meant the hardest of the major varieties...not the full set by LM number.
