    Gorgeous coin!

Interesting to note from the owner that the pops went from 5 in 2002-2013 to 20 now, in 2017. Are people starting to appreciate moderns more and get their coins graded?

In any case, the submissions have gone up by 5X in the past 10 years (300 to 1500). So an increase in the MS67 pops by 4X is no great surprise. With 337 coins in MS66, that seems to be plenty to support gem REG sets (and over 600 MS65's). Looks like PCGS started taking in clad quarter submissions around 1998. There were 2 of this date in all grades then. By July 2001 it was still only 79 pieces. Even if there are no fresh coins showing up, a ready supply could come from the 337 MS66's.

Just because this particular "round" is in the modern class.....how can a collector/numismatist, not appreciate conditional rarity???

Moderns in this state (1983) are quite rare, I love it.

The same date and grade just sold at auction for (or close to) a record low (for this Century at least) at GC on Sunday ($1,050 hammer). That's what can often happen when a scarce pop 5 registry coin jumps to pop 20. Guys like the OP and myself simply stop buying coins we would otherwise love to own. Just a few years ago, I would have paid roughly double that price for as many pieces as you could have delivered to me! Just my two cents.

    Wondercoin.

I recall hunting for a true GEM years ago and not even getting close to finding a coin worth sending in. The two examples above are like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. The light and lustrous gold toning adds to the overall appeal.

I've handled at least 3/5 original coins. I liked 2/3 of the coins very much as I recall. One is still in my collection, one is in a collection of a guy born in 1983 that I work with and the third coin got wholesaled to another coin dealer because I was not a big fan of the coin. Wondercoin.
