My experience with a new coin!

I started collecting basically five years ago, aside from going thru coins from the bank when I was a kid. I really liked Indian cents and that is what I concentrated on. I got bit by the toning bug and searched for uniquely toned Indians and found some really nice ones. After about 3 years I started looking to other series of coins. Since I liked toning on Indians that is what I searched for in other series. I pretty much did not even look at white coins. It was all about the toning!
I have been searching for an 1876 cc quarter for a set I have been working on. I saw what appeared to be a really nice one but it was blast white. I decided to have the dealer send me the coin to look at. It is a PCGS MS64+ with CAC. I got the coin today and am stunned at how attractive the coin is. I can honestly say it is one of the nicest coins I have held. The luster is amazing and I just can not put it down! I think this coin may actually change the way I collect.
I am not saying I will not buy toned coins anymore but I will definitely not overlook white coins. This is truly a great hobby!
I would appreciate any thoughts on the coin and if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Cool coin! I can see why you like it. Original mint bloom with frostiness is always nice.
In my view there are two acceptable "looks" for a coin. One is the way it looked when first made and the other is the way it looks after natural and time-consistent forces act upon it. No coin will ever be more "original" than it was when first minted.
Cleaned, doctored, artificially toned..... those are things that I don't like.

There's nothing wrong with non-colorful type coins when they're near-gem, original examples like yours. A lot of BU coins that were never cleaned or dipped just didn't turn rainbow colors over the years, believe it or not. What makes this coin special is the quality and freshness of the luster and surfaces. From the images, I would guess that this coin has the same kind of frosty surfaces you'd find on a gem GSA "CC" dollar.
I just bought an 1877-cc Seated quarter that resembles yours quite a bit. It's nearly untoned, with frosty, fresh, blemish-free surfaces, PCGS MS64. No color whatsoever. What a great coin, though.

Variety is the spice of life. (I'm so original!)
But seriously, I think if you ONLY buy one specific look, it becomes monotonous. If you allow for a variety of looks, (assuming they are natural), then it's a lot more fun.
I didn't want to take the focus away from your coin, but here is my 1877-cc. It is one of the die marriages with obviously repunched "77." 1877-cc is a common date in MS, and finding a similar, nice MS64 for around $1,400-$1,600 should not take much work. This coin has a heavily rusted obverse die, so Liberty's portrait is a bit bumpy.
I like a little color on my coins, but I certainly can't throw stones at Ironman's 1876 CC quarter. That's a beaut!

Love both Seated quarters. I too love naturally toned coins but original booming mint luster without toning is still attractive to me.

That is a real beauty, and exactly what I like in a coin. Yes, very difficult to find on old coins... however, some were stored so that they did not tarnish. It is not possible to find all the old coins in this condition, but what a great feeling when one does appear. Cheers, RickO

I agree it is silly to rule anything out. I was just so focused on toned coins that I did not give white coins enough of a look. I have purchased white coins mostly morgans but none that had the look of this coin. I think it will be hard to find more like it but I will be searching! I think the design also plays a big part in what I like about the coin.
theres nothing wrong there. i like that
